Exciting news for Europe and its entrepreneurial ecosystem! ?? We are thrilled to support Norrsken VC in this great initiative. Strengthening entrepreneurship and innovation is key to making Europe the global leader in sustainability and impact-driven solutions. The capital of Europe is the perfect place for Norrsken VC House Brussels, a hub that will bring together visionary founders, investors, and policymakers to drive meaningful change. At Astanor, we believe that fostering collaboration is essential for building a better future, and we’re sure this is just the beginning of a stronger ecosystem. Welcome to Brussels, Norrsken VC! We look forward to working closely together to shape the next economy—one that puts people and planet first. Arnout Dijkhuizen, Daniel Goldberg, Kajsa Alenmyr
Right now, every call we get starts with the same question: “What are you thinking about what’s happening?” So, here it is. With everything going on in the world (no need to spell it out), a new Europe is emerging. And when the dust settles on military spending and defense strategies, one thing will be clear: Europe has to build its own future. Energy, infrastructure, manufacturing – the whole package. And since the continent doesn’t have fossil fuel resources to fall back on, clean innovation has long been at the core of its long-term strategy. Just the other month, EU leadership doubled down on that bet. Which is why we believe sustainable innovation will be the backbone of Europe’s independence. We’re very bullish on Europe. That is why we will continue to back its most promising founders through Europe’s largest early-stage impact fund, and that is why we are opening a Norrsken House in Brussels (link in comments), right on the doorstep of the European Parliament. Situated right at the heart of Europe's policymaking capital, the new house will enable the Norrsken ecosystem to amplify the voices of sustainability and innovation within the EU, and connect those who innovate, with those who legislate. The future is promising if we unlock Europe’s potential. But for that to happen, founders must understand what's around the regulatory corner, and policymakers must grasp the full potential of innovation tackling Europe’s – and the world's – biggest challenges. The next economy will be built on efficient and resilient technologies, and Europe is better positioned than many might think. The continent has already made the pivot towards the next economy. The number of cleantech startups and the share of VC funding going to sustainability-focused companies in Europe are both twice as high as in the US. Add to that world-class talent, top-tier R&D, reaffirmed climate objectives from the EU, and a (comparatively) stable political runway that provides visibility into future demand for entrepreneurs and investors. Europe is now building its own future, with climate tech at the core. And for investors, the case for backing the tech shaping a better world has never been clearer. This could be the start of prime vintage years for funds betting on these technologies.
