Meet the Dream Team! On Monday, November 11, we’re launching the open nominations for?Top 50 Farmers. This journey began two years ago in the beautiful countryside of Denmark when the pioneering impact fund?Astanor brought together a group of changemakers to discuss bold ways of scaling regenerative agriculture. I had the privilege of sharing insights about our work with?Foodprint Nordic, and I’m forever grateful to Matthew Orlando for introducing me to?Eric Archambeau, and to Eric?for giving me the chance to be part of that transformative Summit. Over the past two years,?Analisa Winther?and I have built a project with deep roots. We’ve visited more farms, built new networks in the space, learnt how to raise funding, and, most importantly, built an incredible, dedicated team that’s gone above and beyond to make this happen. A huge thank you to?Charles Post,?Ciara Whittaker, and?Facundo Kostelak?for your extraordinary skills and unwavering commitment. Impact valuation practices have been developing for many years. By converting a wide range of impact indicators into a single comparable metric, impact valuation is becoming widely recognised as an essential tool for decision-making by investors. ???? With increased attention paid to the opportunities that impact valuation can unlock, so too have an array of frameworks, methodologies and tools emerged to support its practice. ????? In response, the Impact Valuation Hub was set up to bridge gaps in knowledge, education, data, and tools that hinder the widespread adoption of impact valuation at fund level. I am thrilled to share that Holobiome has closed an oversubscribed Seed round of $9M. The capital will be used to advance our lead program (a next-generation probiotic targeting biology relevant for depression) into human testing, and will also support our quest to map how the gut microbiome impacts our biology, starting with the gut-brain-axis. To do this, we’re leveraging our international donor network (poopers) and decades of experience in growing bacteria to build the most comprehensive collection of human gut bacteria in the world – our Microbiota Vault. With this resource, we are actively performing target-directed screening to understand what our microbes can do, what they eat, and what that may mean for our health. Imagine a world where you can buy probiotics which actually represent the diversity and functional power within our gut microbiome (we’re not even close today), food can be fully leveraged to make us healthier, and the very best of humanity’s microbes power our drugs. We think our platform and the microbiology-first datasets we are generating, combined with advances in multi-omics and AI/ML, are the key to making that future a reality.
