Association of University Research Parks (AURP)

Last week, the University of Arkansas and University of Arkansas Technology Development Foundation hosted the 2024 Association of University Research Parks (AURP) International Conference in Bentonville and Fayetteville. Attendees from across North America included university research institutions, tech park and innovation district leaders, and the architects and consultants that master plan, site select, design, and develop these communities of innovation. We conducted tours of the The Collaborative, the Arkansas Research & Technology Park in south Fayetteville, and gave a sneak peek of the new Institute for Integrative and Innovative Research (I3R) at the University of Arkansas on campus. We hosted conference sessions on campus and at the Ledger in Bentonville. UofA Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation student programming and NorthWest Arkansas Community College's trail building and bike mechanic workforce development programming were highlighted. The attendees' immersive NWA experience also included mountain bike excursions, a pop-up Me Like Bees rock concert at Meteor Guitar Gallery, and dine-arounds and speak easy tastings in downtown Bentonville. And finally, the THE WALTON FAMILY CHARITABLE SUPPORT FOUNDATION INC received the?2024 Leadership Award?from AURP for the foundation’s pivotal support that is transforming the University of Arkansas into a catalyst for innovation, research, and entrepreneurship. Thank you to the AURP team for allowing us to host the 2024 International Conference. We look forward to the 2025 conference in Las Vegas hosted by UNLV!

It was such an inspiring and motivating week at the Association of University Research Parks (AURP) International Conference. Did you know that a start-up is more likely to succeed if they are located in a Research Park or Innovation District? Last week we united in Bentonville, Arkansas to share successes, challenges, and brainstorm together. You couldn’t ask for a more committed community of leaders dedicated to advancing our science and technology econonomy. Thank you Vickie Palmer, Diana Horn, Brian Darmody, Tobias Teeter, David E. Snow, PhD, CLP and so many others for making this such an invigorating week! Just wrapped up an inspiring week at the 2024 Association of University Research Parks (AURP) International Conference, hosted by the University of Arkansas and The Collaborative in Bentonville! This was a fantastic opportunity to connect and learn from experts across university, industry, and government sectors, all sharing insights into the impactful work happening within Innovation Centers, Research Parks, and Economic Engines across the U.S. One highlight was hearing from Research Triangle Park Foundation's own Scott Levitan on RTP's journey of reinvention over the past 40+ years—such an incredible testament to innovation and growth!
