The Voice of Academic Public Health
关于我们
ASPPH is the voice of academic public health, representing schools and programs accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). ASPPH promotes the efforts of schools and programs of public health to improve the health of every person through education, research, and policy. Based upon the belief that “you’re only as healthy as the world you live in,” ASPPH works with stakeholders to develop solutions to the most pressing health concerns and provides access to the ongoing initiatives of the schools of public health. ASPPH created the brand This Is Public Health (TIPH) to raise awareness about education and career options in public health through student ambassadors, graduate fairs, partnerships, interprofessional activities, and other pipeline-building events for students.

ASPPH/USDA Rural Health Fellow Tamara Telles shares her Social Media Fellow Takeover this #RuralHealthDay. Over the past decade, Tamara has worked on diverse public health initiatives in rural, frontier, and urban settings across several states and countries within non-profit organizations, academia, and currently at the federal level. Ms. Telles received her master’s in public health (MPH) with an emphasis in social and behavioral health from the University of Nevada, Reno’s School of Public Health. “This fellowship has provided me the opportunity to work on several different rural health projects.” “Exposure to federal government work, protocols, and the opportunity to meet and support experts and leaders across USDA and other federal agencies has not only gifted me amazing learning experiences and personal growth, but also the privilege to network and expand my knowledge and understanding of what else I can do as a public health professional. It is a true privilege to accept this opportunity and gain the most out of it.” Applications for the next fellowship cycle will be announced very soon! Keep an eye out on our socials so you don’t miss this opportunity. #RuralHealth #Rural #NationalRuralHealthDay

The 2024 Epidemiology Capacity Assessment from Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists and the Big Cities Health Coalition outline the unmet workforce and capacity needs in applied epidemiology across U.S. state, territorial, and large urban health departments.?? The ability of the U.S. public health system to protect us from current and emerging health threats is at stake.?The capacity to deliver essential epidemiology public health services for the U.S. has declined — and is in danger of declining further due to lack of sustained federal funding, especially with the end of COVID-19 funding. Learn more about our proposed solutions: https://eca.cste.org/ #PublicHealth #Epidemiology #CSTE #BCHC?

There are 574 federally recognized American Indian Tribes and Alaska Native entities in the United States (and around 400 that are not federally recognized). As COVID-19 made clear, in order to make sound decisions about the public’s health, Tribal, state, and local governing bodies, we need access to reliable, current data. While Tribes have the right to public health data on their own citizenry, systemic barriers often stand in the way of them collecting data and accessing state and locally-owned data about their members. ASPPH champions Indigenous data sovereignty. #ThisIsTribalHealth #TribalHealthIsPublicHealth #ThisIsPublicHealth #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth

Climate change knows no boundaries, but its impacts disproportionately affect low-income communities. Nationally, 16% of households are in energy poverty, concluded an analysis co-authored by Noah Kittner, an assistant professor of public health at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. "Old, inefficient buildings and heating systems are prompting people to supplement their energy needs in ways that increase the costs," Kittner said.
