关于我们

We are a baseball team for blind and visually impaired athletes who play an adaptive form of baseball called, beep baseball or beepball. Our program is run by volunteer coaches and blind athletes. • ?? Meet Barry Stearns – Renegades Coach & Caller! ?? The Renegades are thrilled to welcome Barry Stearns to the coaching team! Barry brings a wealth of experience in coaching and managing from years of working with his sons' soccer, baseball, and softball teams. ??? Now, he’s stepping into a new role as a caller in the field, helping players get into the best positions to make game-changing plays! Barry first learned about the Renegades when Rob and a few players visited his senior softball league to demonstrate beep baseball. Intrigued by the sport and the opportunity to coach, he jumped in last June and has been assisting with drills, batting practice, and fundraising ever since. Originally from Milwaukee, Barry attended Ohio State and moved to Boston in 1981. He’s been a flight attendant for American Airlines for 46 years, where he has regularly assisted blind passengers. He also has a personal connection to blindness through a longtime friend from church. Beyond coaching, Barry is an avid athlete, having played softball, football, volleyball, soccer, fencing, basketball, and even tried scuba diving and cross-country skiing! Outside of sports, he enjoys gardening, cooking, traveling, and birdwatching. ????? Barry is looking forward to mastering the nuances of beep baseball—a sport that feels both familiar and completely new to him. He’s eager to take on the challenge and make a meaningful impact on the team! Welcome to the Renegades family, Barry! ??? Drop a comment to show him some love! ???? When he’s not on the field or the slopes, he’s cheering on his favorite teams and staying active year-round! Owen discovered the Renegades thanks to his mom, who encouraged him to join. Although he has no prior experience with blindness, he’s ready to learn and is excited to see the players’ progress throughout the season and at the World Series. ?? Owen is here to support, motivate, and grow alongside the team, and he can’t wait to make a difference both on and off the field! Welcome to the Renegades family, Owen! ?? • ? Meet Eric Harrington – Renegades Medical Team Member & Hitting Coach! ? The Renegades are thrilled to welcome Eric to the team! As part of our medical team and a hitting coach, Eric is ready to make an impact on and off the field. ?? A lifelong Duxbury resident and a proud Boston fan, Eric works as a nurse at Beth Israel Deaconess. His passion for helping others extends beyond his career—he has volunteered at Camp Joslin, supporting people with Type 1 diabetes, a condition he also manages himself. ???? Though Eric has no prior experience with blindness, he’s excited to learn more and help our athletes feel a sense of normalcy while being part of a team. His love for sports runs deep—he’s played softball, enjoys skiing, running, and biking, and now, he’s ready to share his knowledge with the Renegades! ?????? Eric found out about the Renegades thanks to his wife, who discovered the team while researching ways to give back. Now, he’s here to support, coach, and inspire our players on their journey to greatness. Welcome to the Renegades, Eric! ?? Drop a comment to show him some love! ??? • ? Meet Nicholas Morin-Tylock – A New Spotter for the Renegades! ? The Renegades are excited to welcome Nick to the team—not as a player, but as a spotter, helping guide our athletes to victory! ?? Nicholas grew up in Pelham, NH and now lives in Melrose, MA, working as a financial analyst (aka an Excel wizard ????). He’s no stranger to sports—he played baseball and basketball as a kid, started skiing at just three years old, and now stays active with basketball and ultimate frisbee leagues. His connection to the Renegades? His wife, Jen, is a rookie on the team this year! Being with her for the past seven years has given him insight into life with vision loss, from reading ice cream flavors aloud to tandem biking adventures. Now, he’s bringing that same support and teamwork to the field, ready to help the Renegades succeed. Welcome to the team, Nicholas! ?? Drop a comment to show him some love! ?????? • It is amazing to see kids having the opportunity to learn about beep baseball, including it into their education, falling in love with the sport and helping other people to know about it. These students have been trying to help replenish a shortage of supplies for the game by making some of the special balls themselves, allowing them to learn about science and empathy. We love to see kids involved with wanting to dedicate their time and effort into our incredible sport.

The “Play It By Ear” project, powered by the passion of sixth-grade students and the expert guidance of teachers Dave Garcia and Nate Ewart, left an indelible mark on beep baseball organizers, who had been beset by basic challenges.

  • Today, the Renegades want to introduce you to one of their newest members, Gabi! ???? She also wants to pursue an MS in Sports for Special Needs. She stumbled upon the Renegades through our website when she was looking for more volunteering opportunities where she could showcase all her abilities and give back to the community. She’s ready to bring all this valuable experience in sports and knowledge in physical education to the team and strive for success.????
