??Member Spotlight?? We are excited to share this week's member spotlight out of the A4LE Oregon/SW Washington Chapter from members Renee Alexander, Principal, Kourtney Strong, Associate Architect, and Lynn Baker, Interior Designer, all with BBT Architects. "On Friday, November 8, BBT staff members gathered with hundreds of students for Bend Senior High School’s 18th annual Veteran’s Assembly. Special guests included a U.S. Navy Brass Quintet, four sailors from the U.S.S. McFaul, and the sister of Engineman Chief and SEAL team member, Donald L. McFaul.A 1975 Bend Senior High School graduate, McFaul was acknowledged with honors – including posthumous awards of the Purple Heart and Navy Cross - for his naval service during deployments to the Philippines, Persian Gulf, and Panama. As part of the current Bend Senior High School Modernization project, the meritorious importance of graduates with records of military service will be realized in the distinctive design of a “Heroes Plaza” by Principal Landscape Architect and Coast Guard veteran, Larry Gilbert of Cameron McCarthy. Intended to honor graduates who went missing in action or lost their lives in armed conflicts from WWI to the present, the plaza will feature memorial plaques, an elevated bridge above a contemplative court, and will be aligned with seven flagpoles representing each branch of the armed service along with the U.S. flag." Check Out the LearningSCAPES Episode of the Better Learning Podcast! At this year’s LearningSCAPES conference in Portland, our team at the Better Learning Podcast had the incredible opportunity to sit down with a diverse group of educators, architects, designers, and thought leaders from across the nation. We wanted to get to the heart of what “Radically Student Centered?” means from different perspectives, so we asked all our guests two key questions: ??What does Radically Student Centered mean to you? ??How does that phrase apply to the work you do every day? The answers we received in this compilation episode were as varied and insightful as the guests themselves, each highlighting unique ways the concept of centering students drives innovation in education.
