?? ?? ?? That’s a wrap on the first-ever Global App Economy Conference EU! Over the past three days, our members, the independent developers and small business leaders powering the EU's digital economy, came together in Brussels to engage directly with policymakers, share their experiences, and advocate for policies that support innovation, competition, and growth. This event was more than just meetings - it was a testament to the power of SME voices in shaping Europe’s digital future. If this week has shown us anything, it’s that SMEs aren’t just part of the app economy, they are the foundation of it. Their voices matter. There's a million things I could say about this event, but it would require me to write a novel here on LinkedIn. Instead, here are some of my top takeaways: ?? SMEs are at the center of Europe’s tech innovation, but policies need to reflect that. Regulations on M&A, DMA enforcement, privacy, and AI must be designed with the realities of small businesses in mind, not just the big players. ?? Overly burdensome regulation is creating a complex environment for SMEs in Europe. Between conflicting compliance requirements, a lack of interoperability between regulations, and indecipherable policy language, SMEs are forced to slow down. In an industry that changes daily, that delay could cost Europe its edge in the global digital economy. ?? Collaboration is key. The conversations we started this week don’t end here. Building strong relationships with policymakers and other industry leaders will be essential as we navigate the evolving tech policy environment. Sending a huge thank you to all of our SME members who made our inaugural GAEC: EU a success! The reality is that it is you: your stories, your engagement, and your advocacy that drives real change. We’re excited to keep the momentum going! Catch us next week doing this all over again in London with our members in the UK ?? #ActOnIt #GAECEU #TechPolicy #AppAssociation ACT | The App Association Bradley Simonich Caitlin Irr Mike Sax Maria Goikoetxea Gomez de Segura Chelsea Thomas
