To celebrate International Education Month, I wrote about the topic for ACSD Ideas. A small preview: "We should pursue international education because we want the church to be more international. That means as institutional hosts, we should be willing to be as shaped and affected by our international guests as we intend to shape them." I'm thankful for the opportunity to work at LCC in a truly international environment. COME WORK WITH/FOR ME! Student affairs/life/services/development friends, a new position is opening at Whitworth! I am adding a direct report who will serve as a commuter engagement and community standards manager. This position oversees student conduct, helps with compliance and will work on new initiatives to support our commuting students. I am currently filling this role in addition to my other full time job, and I need help. The good news is, I'm already here and I will supervise and support this new person as they learn and apply their existing expertise. Once we have this manager in our office, we can build new things together. This may be the job for you if you want students to understand how their actions impact community, want to create a safe living and learning environment for all, like to balance strategy with creativity, and want to help develop our young people into thoughtful, contributing members of this world. I know what you're thinking, so here it is: Whitworth has a low student conduct load, and 40% is truly 40% or less. I average 2 cases per week. Our expectations for commuter programming are reasonable. We want to try new things and centralize communication for what already exists. This position will be less event based and more communication, assessment and advocacy for commuting student needs. That 5% Title IX is really 5%, perhaps even less. This will technically be an office of one, but I will have you connected to residence life and housing staff so there's less isolation and we can learn and create together. Send any questions my way!
