TOOLBOX TALK: Avoiding Construction Dust Construction sites are filled with hazards, and dust is one of the most common—and dangerous. Breathing in construction dust over time can lead to serious, life-threatening illnesses like lung cancer, silicosis, and COPD. Key Dust Types: Silica Dust: From materials like concrete and mortar. Wood Dust: From hardwood, softwood, and wood-based products. Low-Toxicity Dust: From materials like gypsum and limestone. Safety Tips: Reduce Dust: Use less powerful tools, or switch to silica-free materials. Control Dust: Use water suppression or on-tool extraction systems. Spotlight on Apprenticeships As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we’re celebrating the impactful opportunities at Palmer & Sicard, Inc., where apprenticeships are creating pathways to success without the burden of college debt.
