ABC Letter to Pinellas County Commissioners: Support for the Approval of Bonds for the New Stadium Dear Pinellas County Commissioners, On behalf of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Florida Gulf Coast Chapter, I am writing to express our strong support for the approval of bonds to fund the new stadium in the Historic Gas Plant District. ABC represents over 620 companies in the region, encompassing a workforce of more than 70,000 employees. Many of these individuals are highly skilled construction professionals who stand ready to contribute their expertise to this transformative project. We believe the new stadium will not only enhance the region’s stature as a Major League Baseball (MLB) destination but will also generate significant economic benefits for our community. MLB has long been a driver of local economic growth, creating jobs, attracting visitors, and spurring investment in surrounding businesses. The proposed stadium project is an opportunity to further these impacts, supporting our skilled workforce and benefiting Pinellas County residents and businesses for years to come. The use of bed-tax funds for this project is both fiscally responsible and strategic. These funds, which are designated for projects like this, cannot be used for housing or other general expenses. Investing them in the stadium will ensure a strong return, generating revenue for reinvestment in our community. As an organization dedicated to building a stronger future for the Gulf Coast, we urge the Commission to approve the bonds and move this project forward. The decision represents an investment not only in a world-class facility but in the hardworking men and women who make up our region’s construction industry and broader economy.
