Bringing Relationship-Based Engagement to Synagogue Communities: Jillian Manko of Baltimore Hebrew Congregation was interviewed this week about her experience in our NYU Certificate Program in Relationship Based Community Building. Our 35 credit-hour course, plus a Capstone project, provide participants with the skills, tools, and strategies to recruit, cultivate, and engage cohorts and communities. "This practice of relationship-building has the potential to infuse everything we do, creating a stronger sense of belonging and community.... Ultimately, this approach will not only grow our congregation in numbers but also deepen the connections and sense of purpose among our members." Read more, in Jillian's words, here! https://lnkd.in/eWjWGxST --- Our Certificate Program is a proud partnership with Na'aleh: The Hub for Leadership Learning, Macks Jewish Connection Network, and The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore! Want to bring this learning to your local community? Let's talk!
关于我们
Assembly comes from the Hebrew word Edah (???), the full community of the Jewish people. Assembly has two definitions: (1) a gathering of people, and (2) a process of building. And that’s what we’re here to do: to create deeper, thicker forms of Jewish community. We work in three ways: 1. We start totally new projects — We build new forms of Jewish life (like Atra or IYUN) that “spin out” of our venture studio once they’ve scaled (like Base). 2. We share our community building expertise with other organizations — We build bespoke training and curriculum with our collaborators (like PJ Library). 3. We support outstanding entrepreneurs building new communities — These “unicorns” are growing the Jewish communities of the future with our guidance and mentorship (like Selah).

This Winter, join Assembly for a 2-part virtual Master Class on building experiences that are “Social by Design.”
A story: I recently took a chance and went—solo—to a program hosted by a terrific Jewish organization... I was intrigued by the subject matter, they had invited me personally (a personal invitation! game recognize game!), and I thought to myself "I'm sure I'll see some people there that I know, or meet some fascinating new faces." I asked my spouse to put the kids to bed by himself that night, grabbed my purse, and headed out the door. And though the content of the program was indeed fascinating (I even bought the merch afterward!), I walked in to a room where I knew...no one. The program hosts warmly greeted me, and everything was beautifully set up, but — where would I sit? I picked an empty seat toward the back and tried, unsuccessfully, to introduce myself to the group sitting near me. I walked home with my mind abuzz about the meaningful presentation but also wondering — why had I been invited? Was I there to be a tush-in-a-seat? As Jewish community builders, we spend lots of time, energy, and sweat to plan the content of our programs and to get people in the room, but how can we make sure that people feel connected to one another once they are there? My team teaches a set of big ideas and concrete practices for how to make experiences more purposeful and relational — and our next Master Class is coming up. Join us virtually on: January 23 & 30 | 1-2:30 EDT 1.5 hours each day, 3 hours total Cost: $54 Learn more and register: https://lnkd.in/dAMebcm4

Invigorated! That's how we feel after kicking off our NYU Certificate Program in Relationship Based Community Building. It was a joy to learn, share, sing, nosh, and grow with 18 Baltimore community builders last week at Pearlstone Retreat Center & Campus, where we spent 1.5 days delving into the theory and practices of relational engagement and community building. Over the next several months, these leaders will complete 35 credit hours, a capstone project, and collaborate across their local ecosystem to engage more people, more deeply. We have loved bringing this to life in partnership with our friends at Na'aleh: The Hub for Leadership Learning, the Macks Jewish Connection Network, and The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore — in particular Addie Lewis Klein and Cindy Goldstein. ?? #JewishCommunity #CommunityBuilding #RelationalEngagement

We just wrapped Assembly's virtual Master Class on Relational Recruitment and noticed something amazing: Our 60 terrific registrants were from every part of the Jewish community! They hailed from: Day Schools Congregations Hillels JCCs Federations National Educational Organizations and beyond. That's because the work of facilitating people's presence as part of our communities is universal. The biggest feeling amongst the group? Recognition. The biggest takeaway after our "Micro Listening Tour" mini mission between Sessions 1 and 2? "It worked!" Thanks for joining us! The first thing that went out on our group chat last Wednesday AM, post-Election, was: "what Torah are we learning today?" After all, we are not the first generation of Jews to face uncertain or highly-charged times. Rabbis, we're sharing some of that Torah with you this week in partnership with our friends at Atra: Center for Rabbinic Innovation. Learn more about their wide slate of offerings (in the comments), and join us: (1) TOMORROW, Monday the 11th, 3:15pm - Torah for an American Reckoning (2) Wednesday the 13th, 3pm - Engaging Post-Surge: Practical Strategies

“On a fall day leading up to the High Holy Days, one couple I was working with eagerly told me how excited they were to go to services together for the first time — for Kol Nidre, the night before Yom Kippur.” Let’s face it — some Jewish experiences are a higher-barrier entry point than others for newcomers. That can include High Holiday services. In her piece in eJewishPhilanthropy today, Rabbi Miriam Wajnberg of 18Doors points to the advice from our CEO Rabbi Daniel Smokler and Rabbi Shuli Passow on how to greet and welcome the surge of new faces in our communities over the coming days. And, importantly, she makes explicit a few of her own suggestions for welcoming interfaith and mixed heritage couples. Shana Tova! May this be a year of belonging, welcome, and integration.
