During shortages of sterile fluids for intravenous injection, hospitals take action to conserve product while still providing high-quality patient care. Some of these strategies include maintaining situational awareness of available formulations of fluids and using alternatives when available, prioritizing the use of crystalloid fluids, and transitioning as much fluid management as possible to oral and enteral forms. Use ASPR TRACIE’s Intravenous Fluid Shortage Strategies resource to learn about general strategies, and those geared specifically toward emergency medical services, pharmacies, emergency departments, surgical services, inpatient units, and system/incident command. https://lnkd.in/dRMRSeXX

Hospitals and health care facilities across the country are currently facing a shortage of intravenous (IV) fluid that is impacting patient care. On a Clinical Readiness Rounds Special Session, clinicians from multiple disciplines will share how they’re mitigating the challenge in their practice and learn promising practices about how they can maintain care amidst the shortage. This will be a Special Session of the Clinical Readiness Rounds to address the urgent topic. Regular biweekly sessions of the series are currently on pause and will resume in January 2025. Make sure to follow ASPR on social media to stay in the loop! Participation is free, but registration is required. CME, CNE, and Continuing Education for EMS credits will be available to participants who fill out a brief survey. Register for the session here: https://lnkd.in/eJkQZwfw. The timely and effective sharing of information within and across jurisdictions, disciplines, and organizations is critical to an effective public health emergency and disaster response. Best practices indicate that communities with solid, daily, consistent public health and homeland security collaborations respond better to critical incidents. ASPR TRACIE’s Topic Collection on Information Sharing includes guidance and lessons learned on information sharing that can help emergency health planners identify stakeholders to incorporate into the information flow, develop rules and elements for sharing, and exchange information to ensure a common operating picture. Learn more about how you can ensure your health care facility is prepared to communicate and share information before, during, and after a disaster. https://lnkd.in/e38keA4u
