Exciting insights from our recent Food is Medicine and Diabetes convening! This event has brought together diverse fields to explore actionable strategies for integrating food systems into our practices. Lydia Alexander of Enara Health shared the incredible work happening at the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, where they not only provide fresh produce but also prepared meals to communities across eastern Oklahoma and beyond. This model showcases how we can scale food delivery and make a tangible difference in people's lives. The conversations and presentations sparked innovative ideas for cross-collaboration, allowing us to take these successful models back to our own communities and fields of study. Together, we can create a healthier future through food systems integration! The Power of Convening: Advancing Food is Medicine Food & Society hosted a convening on the Food is Medicine and Diabetes. Thanks to support from the Ardmore Institute of Health, this gathering truly reinforced the importance of collaboration in advancing this vital cause. Thanks to Dr. Ajay Joseph of Saint Francis Health System for presenting to our dynamic group. In a world where health challenges like chronic diseases are on the rise, we must recognize that food is not just sustenance—it’s a powerful tool for healing and prevention. By bringing together diverse stakeholders from various sectors, we can harness collective knowledge, share innovative ideas, and create impactful strategies that promote nutrition as a cornerstone of health. The conversations we had highlighted the need for interdisciplinary collaboration. From healthcare professionals to nutritionists, policymakers to community leaders, each voice plays a crucial role in shaping a future where everyone has access to nutritious food that supports their well-being. We'll continue to break down silos and work together to advocate for policies and programs that prioritize food as medicine. Together, we can transform our communities and improve health outcomes for all. Food and Society at Aspen Institute转发了
Over the weekend the second cohort of Food and Society at Aspen Institute our Food Leaders Fellowship said goodbye at the third and last formal meeting of their 18 months together, at The Aspen Institute's Washington HQ. But it’s really just the beginning of the change they’ve already begun to make together to make the food system best serve the needs of everyone who needs better and more healthful food. And they have big plans to keep that work moving. “This is the most impactful group I’ve ever been a part of,” a fellow said before leaving. We feel very privileged to bring them together and watch them make themselves—and make us—better.

Thank you, Meagan Grega, MD, FACLM, DipABLM! You were dynamic and so very generous.
A huge thank you to the The Aspen Institute, the Ardmore Institute of Health, the Coretz Family Foundation, the Oklahoma State University-Tulsa and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine for convening such an inspiring gathering of Food is Medicine leaders to explore strategies for the prevention and treatment of Type 2 Diabetes! From our first evening at the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma all the way through our last session focused on Connecting Community and Clinical Interventions, it was a true honor and privilege to spend time learning more about the incredible work going on across the country while exploring collaborative opportunities and dreaming about future possibilities for leading with a Food is Medicine approach to chronic disease. I can't wait to see what comes out of this invigorating and thought-provoking event. Special thanks to Corby Kummer, Mary Castillo, Alexandra Lewin-Zwerdling, Janet Calhoun and Susan Benigas for making the magic happen!
