Heat-related illnesses and fatalities are preventable, but outdoor workers, farmworkers, and other climate-sensitive populations often have little choice when it comes to heat exposure on the job. By raising awareness and equipping workers and employers with the necessary information and resources, we can effectively reduce the incidence of heat-related illnesses and deaths. Please join Aspen Global Change Institute, in person or online, for “PROTECTING OUTDOOR WORKERS: SOLUTIONS FOR EXTREME HEAT EXPOSURE,” a free talk by Nurse-Scientist and Worker Safety Advocate Dr. Roxana Chicas, PhD, RN, FAAN, Emory University. Dr. Chicas will explore the impact of working outdoors in high temperatures and discuss potential solutions to protect outdoor workers from heat stress. The talk will be followed by an audience Q&A and reception. Presented in Spanish, with English interpretation Tuesday, November 12, 2024 6pm MT / 8pm ET IN PERSON: Carbondale Library, 320 Sopris Ave, Carbondale, CO 81623 LIVE-STREAM: Free on Zoom, advance registration required: bit.ly/outdoor-workers More info: https://lnkd.in/dvJm-54i #ExtremeHeat #HeatStress #HeatHealth

Advancing global change science and solutions, nurturing interdisciplinary community to catalyze science-informed action
关于我们
The Aspen Global Change Institute advances global change science and solutions by furthering interdisciplinary understanding and community to catalyze science-informed action. AGCI engages solutions-seekers—including researchers, practitioners, boundary-spanners, citizens, and learners of all ages—through convening, collaborative research, education, and communications. Like global change itself, this mission is broad, cutting across systems, geographies, and the domains of research and practice. Our work to span these boundaries takes place at local, regional, and global scales.

TONIGHT: Please join Aspen Global Change Institute and Aspen Center For Environmental Studies, in person or online, for a free talk by Dr. Park Williams, Hydroclimatologist at University of California, Los Angeles, and 2023 MacArthur Fellow. WHY HAVE WE LOST CONTROL OF WILDFIRE IN THE WESTERN U.S.? In the U.S. West, annual wildfire area increased by nearly 300% over the past 40 years, and forest fires have grown increasingly large and severe despite our best efforts to prevent ignitions and suppress spread. In his talk, Dr. Williams will unravel the story of why western U.S. society has lost control of wildfire after nearly eliminating it from the landscape for the better part of a century. The conclusions can guide our understanding of fire in the western U.S. and how we can change our ways to live sustainably with it. Following his talk, Dr. Williams will answer audience questions, followed by a reception with the local audience. This talk is free and open to the public. Tuesday, October 22, 2024 6:00pm MDT / 8:00pm EDT IN PERSON: Pitkin County Library, 120 N Mill St., Aspen, CO 81611.
