PROJECT UPDATE??Anticipation is HIGH with the mass timber superstructure for Prologis Evergreen nearing completion in the next few weeks. ASPECT is providing three (3!) unique (yet complementary) services for this project, working together to move the project along from start to finish: Engineer of Record (Mass Timber), Fabrication Design, and Temporary Works Engineering. ?? While our fabrication design work is complete (constructability, CHECK?) we’re still engaged with our Engineer of Record (EOR) and Temporary Works Engineering services during construction.?? Speedy construction??Sustainable design These are two goals we’re able to achieve through the use of the CREE Building System - particularly when it comes to developments like this multi-unit residential building adding more than 500 apartments to Madrid’s *thriving* Valdebebas district. Through ASPECT’s early engagement in the process, we worked with ACR Grupo to implement the CREE Building System, resulting in an overall design and pre-construction schedule that was reduced by more than 50% (compared to a standard mass timber building of this size and scope).?? AND this development’s carbon footprint is anticipated to be reduced by approximately 40% compared to traditional construction methods. While it may look streamlined, the use of CREE building components requires careful coordination and early engagement from a structural engineer – preferably one with a strong understanding of constructability and a high level of attention to detail. ???? ??Core memory alert??: playing dodgeball in an elementary school gym. Right? Who’s with us? ???? We’re going FULL NOSTALGIA with one of our favourite gymnasium projects — a 22,000 square foot gym, which was part of a larger expansion of Lauwelnew School in South Saanich Indian Reserve No. 1, Brentwood Bay, British Columbia. This school expansion project includes an upgrade to the secondary school, a new, full-size?gymnasium, as well as a new, standalone, SEN?O?EN language?immersion building?? ??. These dedicated spaces encourage athletics, Indigenous?education, and improved spaces for direct learning. Talk about making extra curriculars…CORE curriculars ??. (ASPECT Structural Engineers) at the WoodWorks Summit for a panel discussion on mass timber’s impact in reducing carbon footprints and its implementation in a large-scale residential portfolio.

? Sawbrush House ? – a single-family home we’ve been working on in collaboration with Sanders Green Architecture ?? Check out the gorgeous renderings of this 5,200 square foot home in Coldstream, BC. One of the many reasons that we love working on custom homes is the “custom”-ness…each project has its own story. AND these projects often have a strong connection to their surrounding natural environment. The Sawbrush House achieves this connection through the use of strong right angles, contrasting with its soft, undulating landscape. The home’s shape is strengthened through its sawtooth roof, which integrates clerestory windows to fill the one-storey home with natural light.??? BUT the story’s not over yet…while Sawbrush House is currently under construction, we’re getting even closer to seeing these renders become reality.??
