The American Society for Public Administration is the professional home for more than 9,000 PA practitioners, academics and students with its South Florida Chapter consisting of 1000 members strong and growing. The Chapter embraces the society's original concept in finding ways of assisting its members to work better in their profession under the auspices of the national founder. ASPA was established 70 years ago to professionalize the public service, to keep members on the cutting edge of good government, and to help answer the enduring question of how to make a government work better. Over the years the Society has played a major role in achieving these ends. The Society is a non-for profit internationally recognized Society committed to excellence in public service. ASPA provides its membership with education, research, technical assistance and networking opportunities between academics and practitioners.

Exciting News! I’m honored to step into my new role as Human Services Manager for the City of Homestead, working under the leadership of City Manager, Dr. Zerry Ihekwaba and Deputy City Manager Kemarr L. Brown, LL.M, MAIA. In this capacity, I will be collaborating with organizations to address critical community challenges, ranging from health and workforce development to affordable housing. My goal is to create impactful solutions that enhance the quality of life for the residents of Homestead. I’m deeply grateful to city leadership for entrusting me with this opportunity to serve, and I look forward to working alongside like-minded professionals to drive meaningful change. On February 7th, the FIU Maurice A. Ferré Institute for Civic Leadership proudly sponsored the 19th Annual ASPA South Florida Chapter Best Practices Conference at the Miami Dade College North Campus. This was my 14th year co-chairing the conference alongside my friend Roslyn Alic-Batson. I had the privilege of moderating a distinguished leadership panel with iconic public servants Bertha Henry (former Broward County Manager), George F. Burgess (former Miami-Dade County Manager), and Alina T. Hudak (President & CEO of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Miami Host Committee), who shared their expertise on leadership in government and public service. Congratulations to Lerone Laing, a PhD candidate in FIU Public Policy and Administration, who recently won the Best Student Paper Award from the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA). At the ASPA Conference in March, he will discuss his paper, "Uneven Roads: State-level variations in consumer benefits and regulations for purchasing and operating EVs." The reviewers praised his research as it underscores the importance of EVs in our transportation system.
