Despite technological and operational hurdles, dealers are increasingly optimistic about the program's potential. -Over 80% of Hyundai’s 841 dealers expressed interest in the platform, signaling strong support. -Hyundai addressed dealer concerns, ensuring sales remain tied to the dealership, not Amazon. -The CDK outage disrupted over half of Hyundai’s dealer network, delaying progress. -Other challenges include trade-in valuation and flexible financing options. -Hyundai CEO Jose Munoz said that “Customers want to go to the dealer to get the car themselves." https://lnkd.in/g5_zwNrS Investors are doubling down on auto loans, even as rising delinquencies signal financial stress for consumers. Peak travel times amplify those dangers with increased phone use and speeding. -Thanksgiving Day distraction rates soar 18% higher than a typical Thursday. -Speeding doubles during Thanksgiving week, contributing to additional crashes. -The Wednesday before Thanksgiving sees distraction up 7%, peaking on the holiday itself. -Distraction is highest from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, dropping during typical dinner hours. -“Early morning travel offers safer conditions,” highlights the report, urging caution.     Markets cooled slightly last week. ?? The fundamentals? Still solid. ?? Here’s what you need to know as we head into year-end: ?? Market Performance: The S&P 500 dipped 2% last week but remains up 23% for the year. Not too shabby. ?? Inflation: October’s CPI shows inflation slowly cooling, but costs like shelter, rent, and (you guessed it) auto insurance remain stubbornly high. ??? Powell’s Take: Fed Chair Jerome Powell isn’t rushing into rate cuts. Resilience in the economy and labor market means a gradual approach, with rates expected to ease to 3.5%-4.0% by 2025. ?? Dealership Earnings: Q3 2024 pre-tax earnings per dealership hit $1.0M—down from last year’s highs but still 100% above pre-pandemic levels. ?? How Are Gross Profits: - New Vehicles: $3,173 per unit in Q3, down 5.4% from Q2 but 30% above 2019 levels. - Used Vehicles: Averaging $1,566 per unit, stable at 2019 levels but with tighter margins due to rising reconditioning costs and competition.     We’re closing out the week talking about how industry titan Dale Pollak will leave Cox Auto at the end of 2025. Plus, almost all of the public groups saw F&I gross profit dip in Q3 and apparently OpenAI is building its own web browser. https://lnkd.in/d5_ZTGXc Cox Automotive Inc. announced Dale Pollak, founder of vAuto by Cox Automotive and a pioneer in inventory management, will leave the company at the end of 2025 after nearly 50 years of shaping the industry. -Pollak will spend 2024 transitioning key relationships and continuing his influential NADA teachings. -At January’s NADA Show, he’ll release Invested, his seventh book on vehicle investment strategy. -Since founding vAuto 20 years ago, Pollak has driven innovation and success for Cox Automotive, helping dealers optimize inventory. -Steve Rowley, Cox Automotive president, expressed deep gratitude: “Dale has poured himself into our company, our customers, and everything automotive for most of his life. We are very grateful for his unwavering commitment.” https://lnkd.in/dnWRCbX7 Five of the top six public dealership groups experienced slight declines in F&I gross profits per vehicle in Q3 2024. -Group 1 Automotive was the exception, posting a modest 1% gain year over year, aided by stronger penetration rates for service contracts and new vehicle financing. -AutoNation saw the sharpest decline, with F&I profits falling 6% to $2,589 per vehicle. -Lithia Motors faced a 2.8% decline due to lower sales of service contracts. However, its captive finance unit Driveway Financial saw profitability rise, financing 12% of Lithia’s vehicle sales. -Asbury Automotive's same-store F&I profit per vehicle dropped 4.9% year-over-year in Q3, falling $108 to $2,111. -Sonic Automotive posted a 3% drop and Penske saw a 1.5% dip. https://lnkd.in/duNymwwi OpenAI is reportedly exploring a ChatGPT-integrated browser and AI-driven search tools, challenging areas historically dominated by Google. -A potential OpenAI browser would integrate with ChatGPT, enhancing conversational search experiences. -OpenAI is also developing "NLWeb," a tool allowing conversational interactions on travel, retail, and real estate sites. -OpenAI has hired former Google Chrome developers, signaling serious exploration of this competitive space. -Google, holding 65% of the browser market and 82% of the search market, is ramping up AI in its search platform, starting with mobile changes.
