?? Exciting Updates from ASME at USF! ??
We're thrilled to share the highlights of our Competitions last semester at ASME USF!
e-Human Powered Vehicle Challenge (e-HPVC)
On April 12th and 13th, our team, including Quang Ho, Michael Edgemon, Orin B, and Rahul Samudrala, traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia, to compete in the e-HPVC. This was our first time participating in this competition, and we are proud to have achieved an overall 7th place! This event offered invaluable insights into welding, manufacturing, structural analysis, aerodynamics, and CAD modeling. ????
Innovative Additive Manufacturing 3D Challenge (IAM3D)?
On April 20th, ASME at USF competed in the IAM3D Challenge, sponsored by Altair and hosted at the Virginia Tech Drone Park. This event focused on designing and manufacturing a drone using additive manufacturing practices. Our team, including Olga Mendez, Fernanda Bianchi Sanches, Ben Mitchell, Paul Giron, Michael Edgemon, and Gabriel Jacomini, crafted a bold and creative design using Thermoplastic Polyurethane for most of the drone components, earning us a commendable 2nd place overall in the drone racing challenge. ???
ASME Student Design Competition (SDC)??
On April 21st, ASME at USF participated in the SDC competition, sponsored by Boeing, at the EFx Event hosted by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Our team, including Briyah Mitchell-Smith, Michael Edgemon, Charles, Gabriel Jacomini, and Olga Mendez designed a versatile remotely controlled robot capable of playing mini golf and navigating an obstacle course. The robot’s unique and adaptable design demonstrated our engineering prowess and creativity. ???
ASME Old Guard Oral Competition ?
During the same event, Michael Edgemon and Gabriel Jacomini presented individually on different engineering topics. Michael shared his work on Optimizing Mechanisms with Python, while Gabriel presented his Capstone project on Nanomanufacturing Machinery Development. This was a fantastic opportunity for them to showcase their technical projects to an insightful audience, including the Old Guard Committee.
Elevator Pitch Competition
Lastly, Olga Mendez, Michael Edgemon, and Gabriel Jacomini participated in the Elevator Pitch Competition. They were given a case study and had 5 minutes to brainstorm individually before delivering a 90-second pitch to 6 engineers. This challenge was an incredible experience, and Gabriel Jacomini was thrilled to win 2nd place overall! ????
A huge thank you to everyone who supported us throughout these challenges, including Miguel Goni Rodrigo, ASME (The American Society of Mechanical Engineers), USF Mechanical Engineering, and USF College of Engineering. We’re proud of our accomplishments and eager to tackle future opportunities!
