关于我们

The Landscape Architecture Resource Founded in 1973 under the direction of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), ASLA Colorado is the professional association of landscape architects in Colorado and Wyoming. The association advances the profession by advocating the issues that affect our members. The association provides professional education and programs and generates overall awareness for landscape architecture to the public through our public relations and government affairs efforts. The Landscape Architecture Experts ASLA Colorado members are an educated group of landscape architect professionals involved with planning, designing and protecting the outdoor-built environment. Whether our members are planning and designing new communities including urban cityscapes, protecting historic ones, or providing land use recommendations, our members have an unwavering commitment to advancing the profession. At the Forefront of Government Affairs and Advocacy ASLA Colorado recognizes the importance of public policy to maintain the highest quality standards in the profession and within our communities through the following activities: Promoting licensure to maintain a high level of competence and training for the protection of the public and the profession. Developing new laws and public policy to protect and maintain the environment. Offering guidance to public and government professionals when reviewing new plans or policies that affect the environment.

ASLA Colorado participates in National Advocacy Day ASLA Colorado participated in ASLA National’s annual virtual advocacy day on Wednesday May 8 and had Zoom meetings with staff from Senators Hickenlooper and Bennet’s offices, as well as with staff from CD-6 Representative Jason Crow’s office. During the calls, VP of Government Affairs David Sprunt, ASLA introduced the staffers to the profession of landscape architecture, discussed the process and importance of licensure, what ASLA Colorado does, and showed several of our award-winning projects on the website, which really helped them understand the scope of work done by the profession and the positive impact landscape architects have on our communities. The two bills we advocated for are: H.R. 2921 - The Water Infrastructure Sustainability and Efficiency (WISE) Act, which would increase investments for nature-based water infrastructure projects by allowing more funding from the EPA’s Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) to be allocated and loaned to communities to build these green infrastructure projects. The bill is an administrative change to the Green Project reserve fund that is part of the CWSRF, and does not spend any new money. We asked Rep. Crow to co-sponsor the bill, and the senators to introduce a companion bill in the Senate. S. 722 / H.R. 1477 - The Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act.?This bill would transform 529 savings plans from college savings accounts into career accounts, allowing individuals to contribute to 529 plans (exempt from federal taxes) to help pay for expenses relating to post-secondary credentials and skills training?- like landscape architecture licensure and continuing education expenses. ASLA estimates that the national average cost for initial licensure and exams is $3500, and annual continuation of licensure and continuing education costs $750, so this would be a big benefit for landscape architects, and members of some 800 other organizations of licensed professionals who are advocating for this bill.?The act would cost about $85 million over five years - barely a drop in the bucket of the federal budget. We thanked Senator Hickenlooper for his co-sponsorship of this bi-partisan bill, and asked Senator Bennet and Rep. Crow to co-sponsor the bill in the Senate and House, respectively. If you would like more information about either of these bills, or would like to get involved with the Chapter's government affairs and advocacy efforts and site tours for elected officials, contact David Sprunt, ASLA at?[email protected]. #ASLAAdvocates
