For Diem (reddit for women)'s newsletter, I wrote about this era of unavoidable self-promotion. Many who want to make a decent living as an entrepreneur, a small business owner, or an artist, for example, might have to self-promote. Really proud and excited to start rolling out Diem's partnerships with National Domestic Violence Hotline & their program Love is Respect. One of the most popular topics in Diem is relationships & dating—since Diem launched publicly in May of 2023, we’ve noticed a lot of the questions being asked surround the topics of power dynamics, love bombing, boundary setting and sadly, different types of abuse. To help bring Diemer's the resources they need to disrupt and prevent unhealthy relationships and intimate partner violence, we’re really proud to partner with love is respect and the National Domestic Violence Hotline. love is respect is a program of the National Domestic Violence Hotline,?they offer 24/7 information, support, and advocacy to young people between the ages of 13 and 26 who have questions or concerns about their romantic relationships. They also provide support to concerned friends and family members, teachers, counselors, and other service providers through the same free and confidential services via phone, text, and live chat. Diem’s partnership with love is respect & The Hotline will take shape over the coming months, growing as our business does. To start, here’s what you can expect to see: 1. We will be sharing educational resources across Diem’s marketing channels 2. Diem’s manual & technical moderation will surface love is respect & National Domestic Violence Hotline on all relevant posts/searches. 3. Diem’s Oracle Ambassadors and team will receive training session(s) with the National Domestic Violence Hotline’s specialists, so they can learn when to spot signs while replying to posts in the Diem app. 4. We will train Diem AI to pick up on instances where the National Domestic Violence Hotline or love is respect resources are relevant—directing you to the expert resources you need, faster. So much of what we absorb and accept in relationships formed in our teen-young adult years can increase our risk of partner violence, we’re hopeful that through this long-term partnership and by raising awareness for the incredible work & services The Hotline offers—we can have a meaningful impact on the epidemic of domestic violence. We are in a women’s media crisis. In the past decade, beloved publications like Rookie, The Hairpin, Bitch, The Frisky, XOJane, Lucky, Bust, and HelloGiggles have shuttered or all but disappeared.?But at Diem, we’ve long believed women should be the ones telling their own stories. It’s the foundation of our app, which sees tens of thousands of conversations every month about everything from salary negotiations to s*x advice to the pain of period sh*ts (yes, really). If there’s one thing we know, it’s that women contain multitudes, and deserve more options beyond the scraps left behind by majority-male execs. So we’re throwing our hat into the ring. It’s been a long-term dream of mine to?create a community-powered media outlet for Diem. An editorial site where the content calendar is influenced by actual community questions,?where the community can influence the “front page” and a place where women's stories don't get lost because of big companies who shrink budgets and underserve their readers. We've tested this community-powered content approach in a small way over the last few years with our weekly newsletter, The Things We Don't Talk About. All 100+ essays we've written have been in response to questions posted by Diemers in our app. And... this community-powered strategy works, we have over 50% open rates, hyper-engaged readers, and a stable roster of amazing writers who volunteer their talents at no charge. But! We can do so much more and that starts with proper funding. So today we're giving our editorial arm a shot at a big upgrade and introducing... Hearsay! Diem's new editorial hub. This will house The Things We Don't Talk About and The Briefing, plus make space for ideas like a bigger newsletter, original app content, even a zine. But first, we need your help. While The Briefing will always be free so you never miss out on the best of Diem, starting today we’ll be paywalling all but one issue a month of The Things We Don’t Talk About. By contributing just $5 a month—or $50 a year—that money goes directly to our editorial efforts, and earns you a voice at the ground floor of a brand new women’s media venture. If you’ve got more to spend, you can also become a Founding Member of Hearsay for $100 (or however much you like!) a year. If we meet our goals, this year we plan to: 1. Hire an advice columnist.? 2.
