We are ASICS. And our five letters have meaning. ‘Anima Sana in Corpore Sano’ or a Sound Mind in a Sound Body. We’ve always believed in the positive benefits of movement. And this year, we’ve recommitted to this founding purpose. The ASICS Digital division was created in 2016 and is based in Boston, Massachusetts. Our goal is to build innovative digital technologies to better connect the ASICS brand to its consumers. We are responsible for the continued development of global e-commerce platforms, and other digital services that inspire people to live "Sound Mind, Sound Body." HISTORY Runkeeper, a leading mobile running app, was founded in 2008 and one of the first apps available when the app store launched that year. The app now has over 50 million users across 180 countries and is available in 12 languages including English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Swedish, Dutch, Russian, Korean, and Simplified Chinese. ASICS Group acquired Runkeeper in March of 2016 as a piece of the brand’s 2020 growth plan to continue to drive global expansion and improve the Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) experience. ASICS has been dedicated to designing the most technically advanced footwear and athletic products in the world for over 60 years. In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano", which when translated expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. ASICS products were introduced to the United States in 1977 and brought with them an incredible story of athletic performance and technical advancements.

    Measuring movement. The same motion capture technology used to generate 3DCG characters in movies also reveals the incredible forces on the body at peak exertion. At the moment the foot lands, a runner can experience a force equivalent to three times their own body weight, and during a full marathon this process repeats tens of thousands of times. Researchers at the ASICS Institute of Sport Science (ISS) in Japan study biomechanics by attaching as many as 80 reflective markers to the body and using cameras and sensors to generate a system of three-dimensional coordinates. Motion data is used to analyze complex phenomena such as foot pronation, the inward rolling of the foot while running. Motion analysis has informed material and product development at ASICS over many decades. The next frontier is personalization. Understanding our own movement is key to receiving more effective coaching and choosing the right shoes for our running style. That’s why we’re working on making motion analysis more accessible through our digital services and in ASICS stores. Biomechanics is just the first stage of research carried out at the ASICS Institute of Sport Science.     Tokyo, arigato! ???? ASICS Chairman & CEO Yasuhito Hirota greets #TeamASICS volunteers while running Sunday’s Tokyo Marathon. This aid station at the 25K mark in Kiyosumi-Shirakawa was staffed by some of our employees, who did a great job supporting the nearly 38,000 runners who lined up behind the elite field. At Tokyo Big Sight, nearly 200 ASICS employees joined our biggest ever Tokyo Marathon Expo, with limited-edition race day merch including the GEL-KAYANO 31 TOKYO and NOVABLAST 5 TOKYO inspired by traditional Japanese arts. Tokyo gave us fine spring weather and a perfect opportunity for runners from all over the world to move bodies and minds. See you again next year!

    Today we launch the Inclusive Sportswear Charter –?the first sports clothing standard based on inclusion and choice. ? We are proud to announce the following launch pledges to the Inclusive Sportswear Charter. Our first National Governing Body Pledges: England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), England Netball, England and Great Britain Hockey ? Our first Brand Pledges: ASICS, THE STEVENSON GROUP, PlayerLayer, XXV Sportswear, boobydoo, Grays of Cambridge (International), Lacuna Sports, Schoolblazer (Limitless), PEBE ? The Inclusive Sportswear Charter unifies attitudes to sports kit policy & practices to deliver choice and enjoyment. ? Schools, National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs), Sports Clubs, Sports and Schoolwear Brands can all access the Charter and pledge. All new pledges will be available on our Community Platform, launching 26th March. By pledging to the Inclusive Sportswear Charter, organisations signal their commitment to enable participation, enjoyment and performance at all levels. The pledge is to embed the Charter in sports kit policies, practices and decisions in their community and contribute to unifying attitudes to sports kit policy and practice to support choice and enjoyment. Our goal is for sports kit policy to never be a barrier to participation, with a singular mission: to enable choice and comfort at every level of sport. Our Community Platform to help schools, clubs, NGBs and Brands implement inclusive kit policies LAUCHES 26th March at YST Conference! Get ready! #EveryBodyBelongs

    Imagine a machine with over a thousand moving parts. That can perform hundreds of actions. And is available in 8 billion models, each of them unique. The ASICS Institute of Sport Science in Japan has one of the world’s largest datasets on the bodies and motions of athletes in various sports. It holds over 100,000 pieces of data on running motion alone and foot shape data on over 2 million people. This data is the foundation of human-centric science, the driving force behind structural design, material development, and product development at ASICS. Human-centric science is dedicated to understanding how the body moves, how it changes over time, and how injuries occur. Each ASICS shoe balances different functions: cushioning, stability, grip, flexibility, fit, durability, breathability, and lightness. Not just for different sports, but for different levels and goals. For example, a shoe designed for beginning runners might prioritize cushioning and stability, while a shoe for advanced runners might prioritize breathability, lightness, and bounce. In the coming months, we’ll be sharing more from the ASICS Institute of Sport Science.
