??? THE PODCAST IS LIVE!?? The 1st episode of the Asian Faces, Healthcare Places Podcast is finally out! Episode 1: From Lawyer to Women's Health Entrepreneur features Priya Bathija, Founder & CEO of Nyoo Health. In this inaugural episode, (originally recorded in May 2023) Priya talks with the AFHP host Edward Lai, MPH about how her upbringing and AANPHI heritage shaped her experience and career journey into healthcare, as a child of immigrants from India growing up in Ohio to becoming the Founder & CEO of a a Women's Health company. Along the way, we talk about how we met through the Association of Asian Healthcare Leaders (AAHL) online, school lunch stigma (see: Mean Girls Asian Nerds and Cool Asians) and learning to embrace our culture. Priya also shares about her journey experiencing attending rivals The Ohio State University and University of Michigan, and her introductions into healthcare as a career through a law school internship at Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs, LLC. We also talk about her professional experiences throughout multiple realms of health, through ProMedica, MedStar Health, and the American Hospital Association, among many other organizations and efforts. She shares about her work with South Asian Bar Association (SABA) of North America as Founder of the SABA Leadership Institute. We discuss how advocacy for ourselves and from others are so important in careers, and how AANPHI aspiring leaders can navigate their careers. Finally, we talk about Priya taking the step to create and lead Nyoo Health. Nyoo Health is the healthcare leaders guide to women’s health. Through education, advocacy, and research, Nyoo helps healthcare leaders understand how they can improve health and healthcare for the women in their communities and those in their workforce. A word from host Edward Lai, MPH: 3 years after co-founding the Association of Asian Healthcare Leaders (AAHL), I had so many good conversations and met new people from the AAPI & AANPHI community I never otherwise would have encountered. I realized that the same inspiration I received from hearing the stories and journeys of Asians in the healthcare side of business would be good for others to hear. Thus, I started this podcast last May 2023 to share the stories I heard through my own journey from individuals leading impact and innovation in their roles in the business and administration side of healthcare. While other responsibilities and arrangements happened, I still remain excited about sharing these stories to anyone who wants to hear, in the hopes that it may inspire and empower others and show that we are not as alone as we might think. Taking inspiration from groups like Wong Fu Productions, Jubilee Media, AsianBossGirl , NextShark, Gold House, Asian Hustle Network, and Subtle Asian Traits, I remain excited in creating media and content that will help others!
