?? Understanding Asian American Audiences and Why It Matters ?Asian Americans are the most quickly growing racial demographic in the country. ?Recently, there have been notable shifts in the electorate, including with younger voters. ?Demographic research alone doesn’t capture the full picture of what motivates individuals’ political choices.? ?Understanding our audiences’ diverse perspectives, attitudes, and emotions is now more important than ever. “We are trying to build a community of people who are informed and able to stand up for what they care about. If we build enough people power, we can change laws and change the livelihoods of the people we represent.”? ? The Haas, Jr. Fund recently sat down with Democracy Program partners Jonathan Paik of the Orange County Civic Engagement Table and Reshma Shamasunder and Eunice Kwon of Asian American Futures to discuss the creative efforts their organizations took on last year to engage and boost civic engagement among immigrant Latino and Asian American residents in Orange County.? ? Dear Community, In the wake of Donald Trump’s election, Asian American Futures (AAF) understands and shares the stress, fear, and uncertainty many of our community members feel at this moment. We stand resolute in our determination to protect and support our communities. We will continue to ensure that Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) are seen, heard, empowered and united–to speak out against injustice and commit to multiracial solidarity and freedom. This moment serves as a crucial reminder of the work ahead. Now, more than ever, we must come together to mobilize and advocate for the rights that AAPIs across generations–alongside Black, brown, and Indigenous leaders–have fought to make reality. AAF recognizes the threats posed by another Trump administration–the rise in racism, rampant deportations, and attacks on marginalized communities. In moments of challenge, AAPIs must remember our legacy of activism, from winning ethnic studies in coalition with other students of color and organizing for justice after Vincent Chin’s murder, to protesting detention sites at the US Mexico border in memory of Japanese Americans who were wrongfully incarcerated under Executive Order 9066. Multiracial solidarity is essential in these times. We must advocate for policies that uplift and empower all communities, particularly those most vulnerable to discrimination and injustice. We must also prioritize the long-term narrative work that will help our communities imagine and realize a better future. With our history of supporting hard-hitting state and local policy efforts, building strategic grassroots partnerships, and developing research-informed narrative campaigns, AAF will remain grounded in our mission of activating the next generation of AAPIs, alongside other communities of color, to build a future rooted in values of abundance, interdependence, and belonging. With love, Reshma Shamasunder, Executive Director and the Asian American Futures team

AAPI FORCE is collaborating with AAPI Organizations across California for a Virtual Voters Forum. This event was created to mobilize AAPI community members in all of CA to get out the vote and participate in this year’s election. The Virtual Voters Forum will educate AAPI voters on the urgency of the elections by giving community members an opportunity to learn about ballot measures from #AAPI organizers campaigning for their passes. Attendees will find out how they can stay connected with advocacy work within the AAPI community. RSVP here: https://lnkd.in/ebjRX2AT
