  • We are honored to host Gyun Hur's "Our mothers, our waters, our peace" installation at our offices. The artist intends to care for those who are caretakers of Asian American communities. AAAF staff had the opportunity to transfer river water into each teardrop to complete the installation process. Thank you to Flux Projects for inviting us and facilitating this wonderful project.

We are honored?to announce “Our mothers, our waters, our peace” by Korean American artist Gyun Hur. Created in response to the escalation of Asian hate crimes during the pandemic followed by the 2021 Atlanta spa shootings, this work explores grief and healing in our Asian communities while reflecting upon their resilience and love. A participatory installation,?Gyun’s project will unfold in 2024 as a constellation of 150 handblown glass vessels installed at various locations within Atlanta’s Asian community to culminate in a large-scale installation in spring 2025.?? Curated by Gyun in partnership with community liaison Nicole Kang Ahn, these intimate installations will act as poetic nodes mapping grief and love in both public and private spaces. They will also serve to seed conversations around intergenerational work, healing, and community engagement through a series of upcoming workshops and gatherings. “Our mothers, our water, our peace” is commissioned by Flux Projects and partially supported by?The New School. We are grateful for the partnership of Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Atlanta, Asian American Advocacy Fund, Asian Student Alliance, and East by Southeast. Discover more at?fluxprojects.org ??
