Last month, APCF and AAPA finished the 10th cohort of the Board Leadership Program! Offered annually since 2015, the six-month program includes sessions focused on developing effective board leaders on topics such as board governance, finance management, strategic planning, fundraising, and more. Participants also have the option of interning with an API nonprofit board, with an opportunity to be selected as a board member of that nonprofit upon completion of the program. Since its inception, there have been over 250 participants from over 73 companies with 93 participants who have interned on AANHPI nonprofit boards. Since 2017, through APCF's Operating Grant, over 50 nonprofit board members have participated in BLP to strengthen current board members. APCF Executive Director, Chun-Yen Chen, was recognized by Congresswoman Judy Chu as 2024 Congressional Women of the Year on April 13th. In celebration of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Chun-Yen was recognized by State Senator Anthony Portantino as AAPI Community Campion. Additionally, Former State Treasurer, John Chiang accompanied Chun-Yen to accept the recognition from California Asian American and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus on the Assembly and Senate floor as Honoree of AAPI 2024 Heritage Month Celebration. She is pictured with State Senator Dave Min, State Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, and State Assemblymembers Mike Fong and Heath Flora. APCF has grown significantly under Chun-Yen’s tenure.
