In 1621, the Plymouth colonists from England and the?Native American?Wampanoag people shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. Thanksgiving Day is an?annual national holiday in the United States celebrating the harvest and other blessings over the past year. The holiday is not without controversy though. Many Americans—including people of Native American ancestry—believe Thanksgiving celebrations mask the true history of oppression and bloodshed that underlies the relationship between European settlers and Native Americans. While we celebrate the ideals of togetherness and thankfulness, we can also take this opportunity to reflect on the broader story, honoring the resilience of Indigenous peoples and fostering a spirit of respect, understanding and inclusivity.?

In 1954, President Eisenhower signed a bill that proclaiming November 11 as Veterans Day. Veterans Day, originally called Armistice Day, commemorated the end of World War I. Originally celebrated in Laos and Thailand, Hmong New Year takes place once the harvest season ends, usually from November to December, and is the biggest holiday celebrated in Hmong communities. This event was created to give thanks to their ancestors and to welcome a new beginning. To celebrate, everyone dresses in traditional Hmong clothing and enjoys traditional food, dance, and music. As a diverse organization, we celebrate the New Year with our Hmong staff and communities as we usher in a New Year.?

Diwali is a major religious festival for Hindus observed by Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists. The story's origin has an underlying theme of victory of good over evil. This Hindu festival of lights brings several unique traditions, which vary by region and include celebrations of lights, fireworks, feasting, and praying. Today, we celebrate Diwali with our staff and we seek to embrace and understand each other’s past and how it’s shaped us into who we are today.??
