Accessibility is crucial for creating equitable and functional solutions that cater to everyone. Designing with accessibility in mind is not only a legal requirement in many cases but also a moral imperative. Let’s define accessibility and take a look at the top 3 reasons why it is such an important aspect of design and engineering 👩🏻🦽 #Accessibility refers to the design and creation of products, services, environments, or systems that are usable by people of all abilities and disabilities. In particular, it often focuses on removing barriers to participation for people with physical, sensory, cognitive, or other impairments. 1️⃣ – Safety 🦺 Safety certifications and compliance with international standards reassure users of the reliability of the product. Here are some examples of safety features: ◾ Emergency stop controls ◾ Slow-closing mechanisms ◾ Safe Releases ◾ Anti-slip flooring 2️⃣ – Legal Compliance ⚖️ Many countries worldwide have enacted legislation, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in the U.S., EN 81-40 (European standard for lifts), and other local laws and regulations, which require public and private spaces to be accessible. These laws are backed by industry-specific standards, which set the technical requirements businesses must meet (or exceed) to ensure accessibility. Failure to comply with both legal requirements and industry standards can lead to significant consequences, including fines, lawsuits, and damage to a company’s reputation, making adherence to these rules essential for most businesses. Designing with accessibility in mind not only helps businesses avoid legal and financial risks but also aligns them with values of inclusion and equity, ultimately strengthening their reputation and fostering customer trust. 3️⃣ – Inclusivity 🤝 Accessibility ensures that physical spaces are designed to accommodate people of all abilities, promoting a sense of belonging. Products like stairlifts or platform lifts create environments where individuals with mobility impairments can access the same spaces and services as independently as everyone else. Accessibility removes the need for constant assistance, empowering individuals to perform everyday tasks autonomously. 👉 Visit our website: https://lnkd.in/dcz2qmkX to learn more about us! 🏎️💨Congratulations to our HyperDrive Race Tournament champions! 🚥 These three speedsters clocked in the fastest times and showed everyone how it's done on the track! Tyler C. (ASI Drives) took first place, Wyatt I. (Executive Elevator Commercial) came in 2nd, and Yavor N. (AVT Beckett Elevators) came in 3rd. We had an absolute blast with the race simulators, and the competition was fierce. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth and joined the fun! 🏁 #HyperDrive #RaceWinners #SpeedChampions #HyperionSolutions #NAEC #UnitedConvention

It's finally Friday ... and it's also time for another committee member highlight! Today, we'd like to thank and recognize John Cross, CEO of ASI Drives, for his diligence and efforts to make to better the gear industry. John's work with AGMA is prolific. In (mostly) alphabetical order, John was part of the: -Board of Directors: 2013-2021 -Board of Directors Emeritus: 2021-2023 -Annual Meeting Planning Committee: 2017-2022 -Education Advisory Committee: 2015-2017 -Executive Committee: 2017-2021 -Finance Committee: 2003-2021 -Policy & Practice Guides Committee: 2017-2021 -SNL Forum Planning Committee: 2012-2017 -Strategic Planning Committee: 2017-2021 -Technical Division Executive Committee: 2015-2017, 2019-2021 -Trade Show Advisory Committee: 2016-2023 In addition to all of that, John has served as AGMA's US Delegate for ISO Wormgearing Working Group since 2023. John entered the gear industry in 1984 during an internship while still studying engineering. Since then, he has amassed extensive experience designing various gear systems, including epicyclic, helical, spur, evoloid, and worm gearing. His specialization lies in identifying the most cost-effective and compact gearing solutions tailored to specific product applications, which requires a deep understanding of different gearing systems to ensure optimal selection. When asked about his storied history with AGMA, John told us, "My involvement with AGMA standards dates back many years, and I attended my first annual meeting in 2013. I joined the AGMA Board of Directors in 2014, eventually serving as Chairman in 2021. Transitioning into technical roles, I joined the worm gear committee in 2023 and currently represent the US on the ISO/TC 60/SC 1/WG 7 “Worm gears” committee. It's been an incredible honor and learning experience to collaborate with esteemed experts in worm gearing from around the globe. In just a few meetings, I've gained invaluable insights and knowledge that continue to enrich my expertise in this specialized field." Thank you for all your contributions, John!
ASI is proud to be a member of the Association for Advancing Automation and we look forward to exhibiting at next years Automate Conference May 12-15, 2025 in Detroit. #A3 #AutomateShow #A3NewMember
