Have you heard the news? Horizons at Ashley Hall (Horizons) has been awarded a $25,000 grant from Power:Ed of SC Student Loan Corporation to support programming at its middle school summer academic and enrichment program. This six-week summer program takes place on the campus of Ashley Hall in downtown Charleston and focuses on mathematics, STEM, literacy, social-emotional learning, the arts, and swimming. All Horizons students qualify for free/reduced lunch or other federal assistance. The Horizons at Ashley Hall program exists to address the opportunity gaps that students in under-resourced communities of the greater Charleston area experience. Power:Ed funding will support essential needs for 6th-9th grade students, focusing on high school readiness and career exploration. Thank you Power:Ed!

In celebration of Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, Ashley Hall welcomed a distinguished group of female STEM professionals for an engaging panel discussion with our Upper School students. The panelists, representing a variety of disciplines and backgrounds, included a familiar face—Ashley Hall alumna Sarah Martschink Moore ‘02. A civil engineer, Sarah was joined by Becca Bowyer (civil engineer specializing in water engineering), Dr. Funke Oladimeji and Dr. Qian Zhang (both systems engineers), Destiny Hall (architect), Abigail Forget (structural engineer specializing in bridge engineering), and Chaunte McDowell (software engineer). The panelists shared their journeys, challenges, and the importance of resilience and mentorship in overcoming gender biases in male-dominated fields. Their goal? to empower the next generation of women in STEM. #gogirlgo #WomeninEngineering #STEM
