A recent news clip featuring Ashiyanaa President, Priya Kulkarni, as she highlights our work supporting survivors of intimate partner (or domestic) violence. Ashiyanaa, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, addresses diverse needs within the South Asian community in the DC metro area. As Priya shared in her remarks last night at our gala, “The recent, gruesome, apparent murder of Mamta Bhatt in Manassas Park, VA, is a stark reminder of why our work is so essential. Mamta was a mother, a daughter, a friend, a nurse and a part of our community. She leaves behind an innocent 1 year old daughter. Her story is a painful and personal reminder of the consequences of intimate partner violence and the urgent need for intervention, support, and change. Together, we can ensure that the next generation grows up in a community where every person can live with dignity, free from the fear of violence, where elders are cherished and able to live their best years in happiness, and where our youth feel empowered as they enter adulthood and have the opportunity to thrive. Let us honor the memory of Mamta, by ensuring that no one else has to suffer in silence. Let us continue to stand up, speak out, and support each other. Together, united, we can build a community where everyone is safe, valued, and empowered.” If you or someone you know needs support, please reach out to Ashiyanaa. Call our toll-free helpline at 1-888-417-2742 or email [email protected]. Our light is always on ?
