On March 10, AS/COA hosted a private luncheon with Admiral Alvin Holsey, Commander of United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) in Miami. Admiral Holsey shared SOUTHCOM’s priorities and initiatives to address regional challenges, strengthen partnerships, and enhance security. The conversation covered topics such as cybersecurity, critical minerals, energy, and the private sector’s role in supporting SOUTHCOM’s efforts. The program was chaired by AS/COA's Vice President Maria Lourdes Teran.

Elected by acclamation on March 10, Suriname Foreign Minister Albert Ramdin will become the first Caribbean national to serve as secretary general of the Organization of American States. The secretary general-elect enters the role with promises of bridging political and sub-regional differences to reinforce cooperation on key hemispheric issues such as migration, transnational organized crime, and climate change.
