DC Fire and EMS Department recently launched a pilot program using biometric monitoring wearables with de-identified data, in partnership with Ascent Integrated Tech. The initial phase focuses on leveraging biometric and sleep data to assess recruit readiness over time. Key questions we look to answer are: How often are firefighters wearing the wearables? How can data be presented to provide value for both training and recruits? How can data remain deidentified? Major shoutout to DC Deputy Chief Shawn Downs for leading the implementation of this pilot. Key organizations like the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Tech Council Wearable Subcommittee play a crucial role in driving innovation, advancing the adoption of wearables, biometrics, and cutting-edge technology across the fire service industry. It was a defense contract with the Air Force that he signed before he was old enough to legally buy a beer ??. So, to our young and student entrepreneurs, remember that: 1.
