Congratulations to our St. John Health System on launching the Bedrock Initiative in Tulsa — a strategic effort to strengthen community health and expand access to essential resources. This work underscores our ongoing commitment to closing health gaps and supporting long-term well-being.
The?Ascension St. John Health Equity team recently joined local leaders, health advocates, and community members to celebrate the launch of the Bedrock Initiative. Led by our Director of Health Equity Victoria Darker, MHA and Program Officer Dr. Janel Pasley, the evening was kicked off by Ascension St. John Cardiologist, Dr. Saran Oliver. The launch also featured our keynote speaker, Dr. Anita Phillips, a licensed trauma therapist, mental health advocate and New York Times best selling author of The Garden Within. She shared perspective about how communities respond to approaches in health differently and helped the audience realize that both faith and mental health are deeply connected. The ten-month pilot program - which will be implemented in five churches in north Tulsa - aims to address key health concerns,?including physical activity, healthcare education, nutrition, and mental health services. Closing gaps in healthcare requires connecting communities to preventive health resources. We are proud to support the Bedrock Initiative's work to address chronic conditions and build a healthier north Tulsa.
