Last week, my mom, Ivelisse Oleaga, passed away and the reason I share this here is because y'all are reaping from what she sowed. ?? ???? ?????????????? ?????? ??????. My work ethic, drive for excellence, passion for people, and commitment to doing what’s right — all come from her. In the first picture, you’ll see me in high school, serving as Key Club International's New York State Governor, presiding over 14,000 members. I couldn’t wait to show her how her sacrifices as an immigrant and mom from the Dominican Republic were paying off. From that moment, she was part of every accomplishment: getting into Carnegie Mellon University, running TEDxCMU, executing my first UpPrize: Social Innovation Challenge, and so on. Most recently, the second picture is of her volunteering at a NYC accelerator graduation I helped with this year — where both the founders and staff fell in love with her. ?????????? ?????? ?? ?????? ?????? ????????, too, because I wouldn’t have done it without her. My mom taught me resilience and resourcefulness, and here are just a few of the ways she did that: ? She taught me not to idolize people, reminding me that I belong in any room as much as anyone else. ? She found ways to get me into better schools than our neighborhood could offer — story for next time. ? She sought out mentors in areas where she didn’t have all the answers, whether it was English, leadership, or finding fatherly advice. ? She instilled in me the value of hard work and respect for everyone’s expertise — because ???????????????? has something to teach me. ? By the end of middle school, she had me managing my own schedule, and she taught me how to balance a checkbook. Today, I ask you to join me in thanking my mom for the ripple effect of her wisdom and strength in this world. Her lessons live on in every project, decision, and interaction I have. Thank you, Mami. I love you and will be forever grateful. ??

The thing I miss most from my time at Innovation Works is the opportunities to help other startups in the Pittsburgh region. Getting the chance to catch up with Jennifer Van Dam at INBOUND last week and guest lecturing at JJ Xu's class were great reminders of how good it feels to give generously of my time. Especially on the software side, the Pittsburgh ecosystem is missing this sort of support lately. So I've decided to block off Wednesday afternoons on my calendar from 2-4:30 for office hours. No charge. Bring a problem you're facing, ask for feedback on an idea, or talk through growth plans. Given my background in tech & product, and current focus on AI, marketing, and growth, chances are good I can help you work through challenges in those areas. Here in the Pittsburgh region there are lots of robotics startups, and I've helped a few in the past set up cloud architectures for data management, visualization, reporting, and compliance.
