?? GEMS Day Recap! ?? On November 2, 2024, the ASCE Houston Branch joined the Girls Exploring Math and Science (GEMS) Day at the Houston Museum of Natural Science! Our booth brought young girls together to experience a hands-on STEM activity and learn about engineering from ASCE members. It was a fantastic opportunity to provide girls with a memorable experience and exposure to careers in engineering, math, and science. GEMS Day reflects ASCE's commitment to inspire the next generation of engineers and encourage diversity in STEM fields. ASCE Day celebrates the Society’s founding on Nov. 5, 1852. On that day 172 years ago, 12 engineers gathered at New York City’s Croton Aqueduct to launch what would become the American Society of Civil Engineers. American Society of Civil Engineers Day commemorates the rich history, collective impact, and limitless future of our profession, one devoted to serving the public good every day!

The online application is now available to attend the 2025 National ASCE Legislative Fly-In in Washington, DC from March 26 - 28, 2025. ASCE members will have an opportunity to meet with their Members of Congress or their senior legislative staff to share the upcoming 2025 Report Card for America's Infrastructure, 2025 Texas Infrastructure Report Card, and advance the Society’s policy priorities while strengthening leadership skills they can bring back to the workplace. At the 2024 event, 237 ASCE members participated from 47 states, DC, and Puerto Rico, Participants met with 268 Congressional offices – including 58 meetings which were with Members of Congress. Prior to their Congressional meetings, attendees heard from an array of senior policymakers to deepen their understanding of the issues and learn how to be a stronger advocate.
