Today, I helped ASCE North Jersey Branch YMG deliver their first-ever presentation entirely in Spanish to the students of Hubbard Middle School. This experience ranks among the most rewarding moments in my career. Witnessing the students’ faces brighten with curiosity, realizing that there was someone who could communicate in their language, left a profound impact. The significance of representation became vividly clear. I remember standing in this very spot during my youth, navigating life in extreme poverty, not speaking the language, and ultimately feeling disillusioned by the American Dream that had been promised to us when my parents made the momentous decision to immigrate to this country. ASCE North Jersey Branch YMG stepped up, ensuring no child would be excluded from this presentation due to language barriers, and provided representation that resonated with the students. Now, fueled by the desire to be the representation I lacked, I find myself inspired by the promise made by a student today. She promised me that she would be a Bridge Engineer in the future and work with me at HNTB forging a path toward success and breaking down barriers. I eagerly await the day when this becomes a reality! #BeingHNTB

I had a great time on Wednesday attending New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Networking Night while representing both HNTB and ASCE North Jersey Branch YMG. Thank you to NJIT ASCE and countless other affiliated organizations for extending the invite.

As an Office Leader for HNTB I love supporting the development of our talented colleagues and seeing these rising stars grow and become leaders in our industry. This past week, I had the privilege of representing both HNTB and ASCE North Jersey Branch YMG at the ASCE Multi-Region Leadership Conference (MRLC) and Eastern Region Younger Member Council (ERYMC) in Miami, Florida. I had a great time connecting with many familiar faces and making new connections. Thank you Brad Summerville, P.E., LSRP for allowing me to provide a New Jersey Section update at the Region 1 breakout session, and Norwood Water Treatment Plant for presenting on behind the scenes operations and conducting a plant tour. At the ERYMC Awards Banquet, the ASCE North Jersey Branch YMG were recognized with the following: 1. The Peers Group Award: Awarded to an Outstanding Younger Member Group, as judged by all Younger Member Groups in the Eastern Region. 2. The Outstanding Younger Member Group Project: Awarded for a Younger Member Group Project that had a favorable and measurable impact on the community Additionally, I would like to congratulate my colleague, good friend, and our North Jersey Branch YMG Secretary, Jakob Guido, PE for being awarded Outstanding Younger Member JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion).
