On behalf of the Florida Engineering Society and all participating organizations, we are thrilled to invite you to our Joint Miami Engineering Holiday Social! This festive gathering is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the holiday season, connect with fellow professionals, and make a difference in our community. We’ll be collecting unwrapped toys for the Toys for Tots program, managed by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. Your generous contributions will bring smiles to children whose families might otherwise struggle to provide gifts this holiday season. We look forward to celebrating with you. Concrete Canoe Casting Day was a huge success!?? On Saturday, November 16th, our Panthers met bright and early at the Florida International University - College of Engineering & Computing (EC) Maker Space to build this year’s Concrete Canoe! Despite getting our hands and clothes full of concrete, we had a great time mixing, molding, and bonding with one another!??? We would like to thank everyone who attended this year’s Concrete Canoe Casting Day- the canoe wouldn’t have come out as amazing as it did without all your help. We would also like to thank Bart Rockett for collaborating with us and for the Space Age Rocks! Finally, we would like to give a huge thank you and shoutout to our Concrete Canoe Project Manager, Luis Avila, for leading this event and for making everything possible; his hard work and dedication made this event possible.?? #fiu #ascefiu #asce #civilengineering #engineering #stem #engineers #fall #fall2024 #fallsemester #asceconcretecanoe #2025ascestudentsymposium #canoe #concretecanoe #concretecanoecastingday #skills #dedication #knowledge #connect #opportunity #learningmoment #gopanthers #pawsup

There was also a panel discussion led by Ambar Alfaro, Erik M. Alcantara, PE, PMP, ENV SP, Marisela Aranguiz-Cueto, P.E., Anil Misra, & Omar Nofal (moderator), followed by student Q&As, and a chance to network with professionals and FIU faculty members.? We would like to thank the Florida International University - College of Engineering & Computing and Seung Jae Lee, PhD, for making this event possible. We would also like to thank all our panelists, other guest speakers (Rena Chen, Ph.D, P.E., BCEE, PMP, Ines R. Triay, PhD, & Cora Martinez, PhD ), the ASCE Miami-Dade Branch, and the schools who attended this event. The ASCE Miami-Dade Branch Outreach was proud to be a Bronze sponsor for this year’s Construction Career Days! This event was a tremendous success, bringing together the construction industry, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), and numerous consulting firms to inspire high school students from Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties to explore careers in engineering and construction. Our two chairs Roxana Matamoros, PE, ENV SP, M. ASCE & Jose Santiago, PE, ENV SP that participated in the Design Lab, where they had the privilege of guiding students in creating a typical roadway section using real project parameters. It was incredibly rewarding to witness the students' enthusiasm and creativity in action! Congratulations to everyone involved in making this event possible. Your hard work and dedication truly made a difference. We are already looking forward to next year’s event! Special thanks to ASCE FIU for their volunteer efforts! #ASCE #ASCEMiamiDade #ConstructionCareerDays #Engineering #STEM #Outreach
