ASA San Antonio spearheaded by the ASA Young Professionals Group brought the construction community together for a meaningful cause during a lively mixer held at Joeris General Contractors on November 14, 2024. The event, running from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, raised over $6,000 and collected more than 100 toys to benefit the Construct A Kid's Christmas Toy Drive. Attendees enjoyed a friendly cornhole tournament and ample networking opportunities, all while supporting the children in the Bexar County Foster System and CASA. The funds and toys collected will help bring joy to children this holiday season, ensuring they experience the magic of Christmas. “The generosity and enthusiasm shown by our community are truly inspiring,” said Jennifer Swinney, ASA Executive Director. “Through this effort, we aim to bring smiles and hope to children who need it most during the holiday season.” ASA extends its gratitude to Joeris General Contractors, LLC for graciously hosting the event and to everyone who participated and contributed to the cause. We are saddened to share the passing of Jack Magee, a beloved member of our ASA Family. As an estimator for KCM Cabinets and Co-Chair of the ASA Golf Tournament, Jack was a dedicated professional who brought passion and humor to everything he did. Known for his fantastic smile and quick wit, he touched the lives of many with his warmth and laughter. Jack will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever remain in our hearts.

The construction industry in San Antonio recently showcased its dedication to cultivating future talent by hosting a remarkable event aimed at solving the ongoing labor shortage and promoting construction as a viable and lucrative career path. Over 80 construction company vendors joined forces, welcoming an impressive turnout of more than 900 high school students for a day filled with learning, inspiration, and opportunity. The event highlighted a shared commitment among construction professionals to address a critical challenge: the growing need for skilled labor. With the industry projected to grow significantly in the coming years, the labor shortage poses a threat to the sustainability of many projects. By focusing on high school students, the initiative sought to introduce young minds to the numerous career paths within construction—from trades like carpentry and welding to roles in project management, engineering, and cutting-edge construction technology.
