The relative distributions and proportions of neurotransmitter-defined cell types across VTA and SNc remains unclear. In their recent publication, Team Awatramani used fluorescent in situ hybridization to label VTA and SNc neurons encoding VMAT2, VGAT, and VGLUT2. ?? These data complement recent single-cell RNAseq studies and support a more diverse landscape of neurotransmitter-defined cell types in VTA and SNc than is typically appreciated. We are celebrating Amanda Schneeweis from CRN Team Awatramani as our November Network Spotlight?? Amanda planned and hosted an ASAP Social at the 2024 Society for Neuroscience Conference in Chicago that brought together people from several ASAP CRN Teams. "To some degree, we are all familiar with each other's scientific work," Amanda said. "Opportunities like this create a space to connect with each other on a human level - learning about hobbies, interests, and lives outside of the lab. Importantly, it also brings together all levels: trainees to faculty. I think connecting with each other in this way only enhances the desire to collaborate and benefits the mission of open science." Thank you for all your hard work, Amanda!

We are celebrating Justin Savage from Team Calakos as our #OpenScience champion for his development of SynBot, an open-source image analysis software for the automated quantification of synapses ?? Justin shared the source code, tutorials, tissue processing protocols, and example data for his tool. In addition, the manuscript associated with SynBot was compliant with the ASAP Open Science Policy at the preprint stage. Check out Justin's SynBot: https://lnkd.in/eQeVDFtw

In their recent publication, CRN Team Surmeier's findings suggest that disruption of mitochondrial function and the subsequent bioenergetic deficit is a proximal step in the cascade of events induced by aSYN pathology leading to dysfunction and degeneration of neurons at risk in #PD ?? Regulator of G-protein signaling 10 (RGS10), a key homeostatic regulator of immune cells, has been implicated in multiple diseases associated with aging and chronic inflammation including #ParkinsonsDisease (PD) ?? In this preprint, Team Liddle analyzed RGS10 levels in the proteomic database of the CSF from PPMI. Interestingly, they found that subjects with idiopathic PD display reduced levels of RGS10 in subsets of peripheral immune cells. Check out the full #preprint: https://bit.ly/4giYvaX
