Asahi Kasei broke ground on lithium-ion battery separator plant in Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada on November 14. The plant is expected to begin commercial production in 2027. It is planned to operate as a joint venture facility between Asahi Kasei and Honda The facility, expected to create more than 300 full-time jobs in the first phase, will have the capacity to produce approximately 700 million square meters of coated lithium-ion battery separator per year. “This facility signifies a bold step in advancing innovation in battery technology,” said Koshiro Kudo, President of Asahi Kasei. “We are establishing a center of excellence here in Port Colborne that will further position Asahi Kasei as a leader in meeting the growing demand for electric vehicle battery separators across North America, helping drive the energy transition forward with cutting-edge technology.” We look forward to contributing to the growth of the battery industry and driving innovation for a more sustainable future. Today on STEM Day, we’re excited to share one of Asahi Kasei’s initiatives aimed at inspiring the next generation in science and engineering. Recently, we welcomed a group of high school students to our Fuji branch research facility as part of the “Riko Challenge,” a program led by Japan’s Gender Equality Bureau Cabinet Office to encourage students to explore careers in STEM. Since its launch in 2015, Asahi Kasei has proudly supported this important initiative. During the visit, seventeen first- and second-year high school students were introduced to our company, gained insights into the Fuji branch’s research activities, and had hands-on experience with chemical analysis equipment. The day ended with a Q&A session, where students engaged with our team members, exploring career paths and receiving advice on their educational journey in STEM. Asahi Kasei remains dedicated to empowering students to pursue futures in science and engineering through ongoing support of programs like this. Q2 2024 results ?Year-on-year operating income increase in all segments; significant improvement in Material with increased shipments due to firm demand in semiconductor and electronics markets and with appropriate product pricing based on feedstock costs, while Homes and Health Care continued to perform well ? FY 2024 forecast ?Year-on-year operating income increase forecasted in all segments; Critical Care, Digital Solutions, and other growth businesses in each segment to contribute to income growth Operating income forecast revised upward from previous forecast (May 2024) based on favorable results in H1; Health Care forecast maintained despite incurring expenses and amortizing goodwill etc. related to the Calliditas acquisition ? We are thrilled to share?that?Asahi Kasei and Honda announced today that the two companies have signed a shareholders’ agreement to convert an existing Asahi Kasei subsidiary in Canada into a joint venture company. This agreement was reached as a result of continued discussions on collaboration for the production of lithium-ion battery separators in Canada based on the basic agreement the two companies announced on April 25, 2024. Asahi Kasei and TIS Inc. have begun utilizing their jointly established Akliteia digital anti-counterfeiting platform to authenticate functional material in India. With globalized supply chains, the emergence of counterfeit goods at export destinations has become a serious issue, necessitating efforts to eliminate counterfeits in the distribution process. Exported goods generally pass through several operators such as importers and intermediaries before reaching the user, which increases the risk of contamination with counterfeits.?Being of inferior quality, such counterfeit materials can significantly impair the quality of finished products and reduce production yields. This makes it increasingly important to apply measures against counterfeits throughout the entire supply chain. Akliteia is a platform consists of the three elements of an anti-counterfeit label, a scanning device, and a blockchain. We aim to maintain the reliability of global transactions and eliminate counterfeits from the supply chain by providing an accurate and secure authentication platform.
