On February 19th and 20th, the Asahi Kasei Judo Workshop took place for the seventh time in Düsseldorf. Initiated in 2017, this Workshop has become a traditional annual event for the local Judo community, introducing young children to the art and values of Judo. 120 children from the Lessing Gymnasium and the Japanese School in Düsseldorf joined on February 20th. The evening before, 70 experienced Judo-ka gained insights to various techniques from Asahi Kasei's professional coaches and former athletes. This year, we had the special pleasure to welcome Shohei Ohno as one of the coaches. Having a two-times Olympic Gold medalist (Rio de Janeiro 2016 & Tokyo 2021) showing tricks and techniques added further to the high quality of the Workshop. For Ohno, it was his second participation after 2017. In addition, Kenzo Nakamura, Head Coach of the Asahi Kasei Judo Team, Ryunosuke Haga, Playing Coach of the Asahi Kasei Judo Team, and Johannes Frey from local Judo Club JC 71 also demonstrated their skills and answered many questions from the curious participants. Special thanks go out to our Judo Team, JC 71, the Lessing Gymnasium, the Japanese School, the City of Düsseldorf & D.SPORTS and the Japanese Consulate General in Düsseldorf for their unwavering support of this fantastic cross-cultural activity! March 3rd is World Wildlife Day, a time to recognize the importance of protecting biodiversity and fostering harmony between people and nature. Asahi Kasei's mission is to "contribute to life and living for people around the world"—and this includes safeguarding the ecosystems that sustain us. One of our key biodiversity initiatives, the "Asahi Woods of Life (Asahi Inochi no Mori)", exemplifies this commitment. Established in 2007 at our Fuji office in Japan, it began with a planting event involving approximately 2,000 employees and local residents. This 1-hectare artificial forest was created on a former factory site to restore the region’s natural landscape. With expert-led green space maintenance and management plans, the forest has flourished into a thriving ecosystem. Today, it provides a habitat for over 40 bird species and more than 600 insect species, demonstrating the success of our biodiversity efforts. Beyond conservation, the project actively engages in joint research with universities and the local community to improve vegetation. The insights gained are shared through lectures and published in journals, strengthening efforts to protect biodiversity. We reaffirm our dedication to preserving nature and fostering biodiversity. #WorldWildlifeDay #Biodiversity #Sustainability #EnvironmentalConservation #NatureRestoration

This February, Asahi Kasei and Kurashiki City held a grand opening ceremony for a biogas purification system in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture, Japan. The system removes carbon dioxide (CO?) from biogas to produce clean methane (biomethane) using a special material called zeolite and a pressure-based process. Zeolite acts like a sponge, trapping CO? while letting methane pass through. Asahi Kasei’s advanced technology then separates the CO? by changing the pressure, allowing for efficient production of high-purity biomethane. In Kurashiki City, electricity is generated using biogas derived from sewage sludge at the Kojima Sewage Treatment Plant. The system will use a portion of this biogas for the demonstration trial. Furthermore, if the CO2 separated by this system is utilized and/or stored, it would achieve carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), which is carbon negative. We are excited to see how this collaboration develops and look forward to its anticipated commercialization in 2027. To learn more, visit https://lnkd.in/erdB_FyR #biogas #cleanenergy #AsahiKasei
