Community is powerful ? "Community Ties" honors the history and legacy of Over-the-Rhine, its longtime residents, and the stories and experiences embedded in the architecture and generations who have passed through it. While acknowledging the past, the mural design seeks to look towards the future through refreshing imagery of hope, prosperity, and unity. Over-the-Rhine community residents not only informed the design concepts for this through community engagement, but also through a community vote chose the final design. The dominant element that flows throughout this design is a ribbon, which signifies the ties or connections of this particular community. A crane, a bird that signifies grace, beauty, and peace, carries the ribbon across the design ushering the values of the neighborhood throughout Imagination Alley. The inclusion of a people across generations creates a welcoming space for of all ages, while paying tribute to both the past, present, and future identity of Over-the-Rhine. Let there be light! Over the weekend, ArtWorks and Jewish Federation of Cincinnati proudly dedicated a new mural that celebrates the significant contributions of Jewish Cincinnatians over the past two centuries. Jessica Tamar Deutsch's contemporary design in "Let There Be Light" evokes the feeling of a tapestry or ketubah — a binding love letter to the city. Through the mural, viewers can see joy and legacy, inspiring pride, healing, and connection within the local Jewish community and beyond. Special thanks to our partner, Jewish Federation of Cincinnati and the following individuals for making this project a reality: Mural Designer: Jessica Tamar Deutsch with support from Monte Jones Lead Teaching Artists: Hannah Parrett and Kenton Brett Teaching Artist: Monte Jones A team of 14 Youth Apprentices ArtWorks Creative Project Manager: Adrienne Dixon ArtWorks Senior Director of Impact: Sydney Fine You can pay this mural a visit at Thomas Morrow House, 124 W. 9th Street!
