NYC youth, join us for a Creative Session next Thursday, September 26, 3:30 - 6PM at our studio in Chelsea. Molly Davy @mollydavy.biz and Parker Perez are hosting Authentic Articles: Crafting Artist Statement and Biography, an intro and development for professional artists materials. They'll lead a discussion on the ins and outs of representing yourself through statements and biographies - what they are and why they're important. Come through to ask questions, develop or edit your own statements and bios, and further solidify your understanding of artistic foundations and fundamentals. Our Creative Career Exploration Summer Internship in New York City has come to a close and we're excited to see where our interns go from here! Over the course of four weeks, our interns expanded upon their personal artistic practice while also getting introduced to different creative career fields through industry site visits and projects. Thank you to everyone that was a part of this year's Art Start Portrait Project Production in Milwaukee! Over the course of our summer internship program in MKE our interns have been involved in ASPP, consisting of the conceptualization of portraits, oral history interviews, and a photoshoot production, working with program managers, professional photographers, videographers, and makeup artists, culminating in stories and portraits that ask the world to see them how they choose to be seen. We are currently recruiting for participants to be a part of this year's See Me Because project at Art Start. Check out the link in bio for more information and to apply. See Me Because is a part of the Art Start Portrait Project, a multimedia project and platform for the Art Start participants to portray the complex narratives of their identities, asking the world to see them as they choose to be seen. This iteration of the project centers youth whose lives have been affected by incarceration and the justice system. Over the course of ten weeks, we offer the space and support for self-expression and identity exploration towards a collective goal of reducing the stigma associated with justice-involvement. This project consists of weekly workshops centered around creative self-determination culminating in a multimedia project consisting of video interviews, oral history stories, and portraits. This project is made possible by a @humanitiesny Action Grant.
