Working behind the scenes for over 60 years to grow the foundation of Memphis' arts.
关于我们
ARTSmemphis is the primary arts funder in the Mid-South and exists to strengthen our community by supporting Memphis artists and arts organizations. The arts are essential in driving our economy, enhancing quality of life, improving youth development, providing healing and connection, bridging differences, and sparking innovation. ARTSmemphis grants over $3M to 65+ organizations and hundreds of artists annually. ARTSmemphis has invested over $90 million since its inception in 1963, expanding the foundation of art for our city. ARTSmemphis generates arts support and invests in artists and organizations. Over the last several years, ARTSmemphis began funding individual artists and implemented a more equitable grant-making structure that supports more organizations, enabling more arts experiences for Memphians. ARTSmemphis elevated its role as convener and connector during the pandemic, helping the sector navigate impacts and plan for a forever-changed future. ARTSmemphis envisions a Memphis in which every individual feels pride in our city’s authentic cultural assets and experiences the impact of the arts in their lives. In pursuit of that vision, we are guided by a commitment to access, equity and inclusion, creativity and innovation, and transparency.

“I'm excited to see a lot of experimentation in the arts in Memphis, and such a rich variety of subject matter, material, and methods, but I am especially interested in the art that feels sensitive and intuitive.” – Lacy Mitcham, Public Programs Coordinator, Dixon Gallery & Gardens Discover Lacy's curated weekend guide or create your own with the ARTSmemphis community calendar. Did you know that our nonprofit arts sector generates $38 million in annual tax revenue and supports 3,775 jobs in Shelby County? We are proud to join our grantee organizations across our community for Tennessee Arts Advocacy Day this Thursday, March 6, as we gather virtually to amplify our voices and share with our state legislators why continued support of the arts is critical.

“I don’t think that Memphians recognize the vastness of how the commerce around music reaches them on a personal scale," said DeMarcus Akeem Suggs, the director of the City of Memphis Office of Creative and Cultural Economy. "If we continue to invest in the infrastructure of music, whether that’s creation all the way to dissemination of the music, we will see artists stay here."

“One of the greatest joys of living in Memphis is the accessibility to our vibrant arts community. You don’t have to go far to see creativity and new ideas being brought to life. I encourage you to connect with one of our local arts organizations, attend art gallery openings and don’t miss an opportunity to get to know a local artist. Show up and dig in and be a part of what makes our city so interesting!” – Lucia Heros, Community Volunteer Discover events curated by Lucia below, or create your own using the ARTSmemphis community calendar. "Art is culture. And culture is the expression of the people. The art and culture from Memphis has influenced and inspired the world several times over. From the ‘I am a Man’ sign to the sounds of Stax Records. From the swag and artistry of Jookin' to the unique production and storytelling of the music that influences it. Art and culture are the city's most precious exports, aside from the people themselves. And supporting the art of Memphis is what it means to truly embrace your inner Memphis." – Eso Tolson, Artist, Consultant, and Co-founder of 5ifth Floor See Eso's weekend guide picks below, or curate your own with the ARTSmemphis community calendar: Ballet Memphis Presents Winter Mix I Playhouse on the Square I Feb 21-23 Stax Music Academy Celebrates 25th Anniversary I The Cannon Center for the Performing Arts I Feb 21 Brunch and Brushes I UrbanArt Commission I Feb 22 Black History Symposium Series I Hattiloo Theatre I Feb 22 All Men Sing: An American Voice I First Baptist Church Memphis I Feb 22
