Art from Ashes exists to empower struggling youth by providing creative programs that facilitate health and hope through expression, connection and transformation. The youth empowerment programs at AfA use right-brain techniques and cutting-edge scientific information on creativity and neurology to provide transformative workshops that not only offer young people access to the arts and to their creative power, but in doing so also address risk factors among struggling young people. The curriculum for our Phoenix Rising poetry and spoken word program not only benefits youth, but people of all ages. We currently provide ADULT WORKSHOPS that support our youth programs, and have developed a tailored curriculum design to encourage professionals to access their creativity for enhance productivity in the workplace. Happy Valentine's Day! ?? This poem was written by Ace, age 20, in an Art from Ashes workshop at Urban Peak. I Am Love By Ace, age 20 Urban Peak I am lavender, crisp and soothing, gentle and sweet. I am chai tea, bitter and sweet, hot and cold, confused yet known. I am my brother’s laugh, calm and joyous, here but gone. I am my uncle’s hug, forgotten yet remembered, warm and calming, gentle and soothing. I am a purple tote, I hold a lot for us. I never give unless cared for. I move like the rain, unpredictable and random, soothing yet scary. I am all these things and more. I am kind. At our December All Agency meeting, members of the Art from Ashes board, staff, and volunteer teams met to serve our agency and celebrate our successes in 2024. We cut and painted snowflakes to decorate the workshop space, iced sweater cookies, read some poetry, and then each wrote our intentions on wish paper to light and send out into the universe. Some were spoken aloud while others were sent up in confidence. We sent peace, magic, connection, liberation, clarity, prosperity, rest, gentleness, and togetherness out into the universe. We are so very grateful for our board president and all that she does to support Art from Ashes. ?? Kelly Thomas joined us as a volunteer in 2018 and signed up for one of our adult workshop series so that she could experience our life-changing program for herself. Since then, she has served on the events team and trained as a co-facilitator before joining the AfA Board of Directors in 2021 and becoming board president in 2022.
