Art Bridges is a new foundation dedicated to expanding access to American art.
关于我们
Art Bridges is a foundation that shares outstanding works of American art with those that have limited access to our country’s most meaningful works. Art Bridges organizes exhibitions of American art for display at public and academic art museums of all sizes. These exhibitions draw from Art Bridges’ growing collection and partner institutions. The exhibitions supported by Art Bridges are engaging, content-rich, and include in-depth educational and interpretive materials. They range from single-object loans to fully developed thematic exhibitions, and include support for programming, audience engagement, and meaningful evaluation. Art Bridges is deeply interested in furthering work that is innovative and experimental; multi-disciplinary; and audience-building.

“Bill Viola: Moving Stillness” opens this Friday, March 22! Experience this monumental video installation by #BillViola, who was renowned for creating immersive environments that delve into profound themes of death, rebirth, fragility, and strength. Set against the backdrop of #MountRainier, an active volcano in Washington State, Viola’s work captures the dual nature of this majestic landscape—its serene beauty juxtaposed with the latent power for sudden, violent change. Shown in a darkened room, the installation features a calm pool of water reflecting a projected video of the mountain, accompanied by an immersive soundscape. We love seeing our Museum professionals in their natural habitats! Congratulations to Nyree Dowdy and Chelsea Pierce for their hard work on the exhibition 'Define Yourself!,' now on view at Mosely Gallery. This exhibition is part of the Atlantic Coast Cohort Partnership of Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the Mid-Atlantic Region, including University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Elizabeth City State University, and Norfolk State University. Thank you to the Art Bridges Foundation for sponsoring this exhibition. For more information, visit https://lnkd.in/euPzi5vH #ChryslerMuseum #DefineYourself #AtlanticCoastCohort
Pictured: A museum professional in her natural habitat! I had an amazing time last week at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore's Mosely Gallery preparing for the opening of Define Yourself!, a collaborative project between UMES and the Chrysler Museum of Art, sponsored by the Art Bridges Foundation. This was my first time curating a project from start to finish, and I couldn’t have asked for better collaborators. A huge thank you to Mehves Lelic, Chelsea Pierce, and all the UMES students who helped bring this show to life! Our opening was canceled due to snow, but we’ll be back for a closing reception in April—stay tuned. In the meantime, be sure to check out Define Yourself at UMES’ Mosely Gallery until May 2!

Relevance requires trust, and we love this exciting example of a museum trusting the public enough to be its partner in the way it exhibits art. Congratulations to Masha Turchinsky and Hudson River Museum for a creative use of support from Art Bridges Foundation and art shared by the Joslyn Art Museum. You don't need a survey to know that the public would appreciate more ways to see museums listen to them AND respond in real time.
Evaluation doesn’t have to be complicated. We love how our partner, the Hudson River Museum (HRM), used a programmatic approach to gather visitor feedback after reinstalling a selection of artworks, including several on loan from the Joslyn Art Museum through our Partner?Loan Network. Spoiler alert... this story does not involve a survey! HRM opened “Order / Reorder: Experiments with Collections,”?an exhibition co-curated by Laura Vookles and Bentley Brown, in June 2022. Throughout its run, which ended in the fall of 2023, the museum provided a magnetized reproduction of each artwork in its lobby alongside a prompt that encouraged visitors to curate another version of the show, organizing the works in a way that told their own visual story. After a few rounds of voting, HRM chose the most popular arrangement and reinstalled the works in its gallery to match.?? We always encourage our partners to think beyond the sometimes-overused survey and incorporate fun techniques, such as this, into their plans to determine how the public engages with artworks and how to improve upon future Learning & Engagement efforts. Have you ever participated in an interactive activity like this at a museum? If so, tell us about your experience in the comments! Photo by Steven Paneccasio.

Thanks to Art Bridges Foundation for highlighting this fun interactive experience in conjunction with our exhibition "Order/Reorder: Experiments with Collections." Visitors were invited to arrange reproductions of artworks to tell their own visual story - grouping works according to subject matter, style, color, shape, pattern, design, aesthetic, or whatever came to mind! #HRMOrderReorder
