GRAMMY?-nominated ensemble presenting imaginative, world-class performances of music from the 17th and 18th centuries
关于我们
Founded in 1998 by harpsichordist and conductor Matthew Dirst, Ars Lyrica Houston presents a diverse array of music in its original context while creating connections to contemporary life. Imaginative programming features neglected gems alongside familiar masterworks, and extracts the dramatic potential, emotional resonance, and expressive power of music. Its local subscription series, according to the Houston Chronicle, “sets the agenda” for early music in Houston. Ars Lyrica appears regularly at international festivals and conferences because of its distinctive focus, and its pioneering efforts in the field of authentic performance have won international acclaim. This 2023/24 season, Ars Lyrica Houston celebrates 20 Years of Magic with a season dedicated to musical wizardry of various kinds, from wondrous choral works by Carissimi and Charpentier to miraculous chamber pieces by Biber and Bach. The milestone 20th anniversary season closes with a new production of a “magic” opera, Handel’s Amadigi di Gaula, in its Houston premiere.

Countertenor Nicholas Garza?breaking our hearts with "Pena tiranna" ???? "One of the most moving and memorable moments of the night came when countertenor Nicholas Garza, as Prince Dardano, sang about the pangs of unrequited love in “Pena tiranna.” Garza’s voice was clear and ethereal, each phrase wrought with sensitivity and nuance." (Sherry Cheng,?Arts and Culture Texas) Digital Replay Passes to the full opera production of Handel's Amadigi di Gaula are available at the Ars Lyrica Houston website: https://lnkd.in/gdwVdcHS

"Handel’s music for Amadigi di Gaula is extraordinary, the range of vocal and orchestral colors, the variety of inventive musical ideas, all serve to portray the emotional depth of his characters and the very human drama in which they are engaged. Ars Lyrica has brought a 300-year-old masterpiece into the present, with a production that speaks to the heart." Thank you so much, Sherry Cheng, for this beautifully written review of our opera Amadigi di Gaula in Arts and Culture Texas! She so accurately captured what we wanted to portray to our audience. https://lnkd.in/gsxvmPzi

Check out this awesome interview with Ars Lyrica violinist Andrés González - aka the Vivaldi of "Maria's Magical Music Adventure," a children's play co-produced by Express Children's Theatre and Ars Lyrica! We especially love this quote, which reflects Andrés' beautiful approach to arts: "Creative arts, I believe, are a defining human trait — the ability to forge an idea that is nascent in your mind and heart..."
