Another star-studded Atlanta Regional Commission State of the Region event this morning. ARC Board Chair Mayor Andre Dickens kicked off the morning with his usual energy and insight into our region’s progress. CEO Anna Roach continued with a powerful vision for the future. The keynote speaker, former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, shared inspiring reflections on leadership and resilience. A huge highlight was the Regional Excellence Award for Innovative Design, awarded to “The Melody” by visionary Cathryn Vassell Esq., LCSW of Partners for HOME, developer Darion Dunn, P.E., and architect Ryan Woods. Their work is groundbreaking, providing micro-concept housing solutions for those experiencing homelessness. It’s thrilling to see this model recognized for the second year in a row, and it’s even more special knowing that a St. Pius X Catholic High School alum, like our 12Hundred Studios last year, is involved in the project! We are thrilled to share that the inaugural Housing Heroes Celebration, presented by ARRC Capital Partners, was a resounding success! The evening honored Atlanta’s rich civil rights legacy and highlighted our ongoing efforts to address the affordable housing crisis. The event began with the unveiling of the "Legends of Vine City and English Avenue" Banner, recognizing the civil rights icons who paved the way for equality. We were honored to have Councilmembers Andrea Boone and Michael Julian Bond with us to commemorate their parents' legacies, and highlight Councilmember Byron Amos' new "blight tax" legislation, aimed at revitalizing our city's neighborhoods. We also welcomed Fulton County Commissioner Commissioner Natalie Hall, MPA, MBA, CPM and representatives from the Office of Governor Brian P. Kemp , Office of U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff, and Office of Congressmember Nikema Williams, all showing their support for our transformative housing projects like 12Hundred Studios and 385 Joseph E. Lowery. A special moment was celebrating the legacy of State Representative Able Mable Thomas, a lifelong champion of civil rights. Out Of Hand Theater’s powerful performance brought personal stories to life, reminding us of the real impact of affordable housing. A major thank you to Ariel Fristoe for her artistic guidance! What a great way to come back from all the Memorial Day festivities with a new article from the amazing Kristal Dixon at Axios about our affordable housing developments that are shaking up Atlanta’s Westside! 12Hundred Studios has brought meaningful change to the Hunter Hills neighborhood and affected so many lives. People that were experiencing homelessness now have a place they can call home. Our latest project in English Avenue is poised to devliver more affordable units with rents starting as low ad $500 per month. This truly inclusive affordable housing development will have people from all income brackets living side by side. Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of Atlanta Affordable Housing Fund, LP (Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta ) Westside Future Fund and Invest Atlanta. Thrilled to have hosted Neal VanMarter and Alexia Johnson from Office of U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff team at our affordable housing project site, alongside one of our investors, Darryl Holloman, Ph.D. As a legacy resident who grew up just around the corner from our project, Darryl provides invaluable insight into the plight of this area. It was an invaluable opportunity to shed light on the real-life challenges faced by residents in English Avenue and the complexities of creating sustainable affordable housing solutions.
