关于我们
The Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA) is the U.S.-based, national and international association that connects scholars, teachers, and practice leaders interested in research on nonprofit organizations, voluntary action, philanthropy and civil society. Founded in 1971 as the Association of Voluntary Action Scholars, ARNOVA is a neutral, open forum committed to strengthening the research about and helping shape better practice in these realms. We bring together both theoretical and applied interests, helping scholars gain insight into the day-to-day concerns of third-sector organizations, while providing nonprofit professionals with connections to research they can use to improve the work of their organizations and the quality of life for citizens and communities.

For those interested, we'll be discussing this research as part of a session on donor-advised funds at the ARNOVA conference next week.
Are Donor-Advised Funds Facilitating Opaque Giving to Politically Engaged Charities? An excellent working paper by Brian Mittendorf of The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business and Helen Flannery of the Institute for Policy Studies. The short answer is yes: DAF sponsors disproportionately support politically engaged charities, defined as organizations involved in lobbying and electioneering. A link to the paper is in the comments of this post. #DonorAdvisedFunds #CharitableOrganizations #Nonprofits #CharitableGiving #Electioneering #Lobbying

Timely post from a distinguished ARNOVAn for our conference presenters heading to D.C. next week! ?
THE BIGGEST LOSER Inspired by a recent post from Claire van Teunenbroek, and recognizing that the ARNOVA conference is next week and conferences can really flare up academics' imposter syndrome, I thought I'd share a bit about failure. I fail a lot. My work is constantly rejected. Reviewers sometimes thrash my work pretty harshly. And I've also had a lot of success. People mostly see the success. So here are some (slightly out of date) slides showing some of the rejections below the surface of my success: way more paper rejections than acceptances... I've been rejected from awards, conferences, and jobs ... and I once won a golden toilet for being the biggest loser (i.e., having the worst rejection stories). Enjoy the schadenfreude or sense of solidarity, whichever you prefer :) But mostly let's try not to compare our insides to other people's outsides. We may not know what is going on below the surface for them.
