Ylli Bajraktari had insightful comments for the Army Strategist Association last night. Clear call to action for the technology competition that is critical to future U.S. security and an interesting recommendation for a VPOTUS chaired, National Technology Council - an upgraded & empowered White House Office of Science and Technology Policy from my perspective. Thanks for the invite Matthew McCoy, Robert Green, Jan K. Gleiman (Ken), great people, great discussion, great event!

#SWJTheDiscourse: The Tech Revolution and Irregular Warfare: Leveraging Commercial Innovation for Great Power Competition by Seth G. Jones, published by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Seth G. Jones’ latest analysis at #CSIS recognizes a critical gap in U.S. irregular warfare strategy—the failure to harness commercial innovation effectively against great power adversaries. ?? ??? ??? ?? While #China, #Russia, and #Iran rapidly integrate #EmergingTechnologies into their hybrid warfare approaches, the U.S. remains hamstrung by bureaucratic inertia, risk aversion, and outdated acquisition processes. ??? ????????????????????????????????????????????????????:? ?? Adversary Advantages: China’s military-civil fusion strategy accelerates AI, cyber, and autonomous systems development, strengthening its irregular warfare toolkit. ???? U.S. Shortfalls: The Pentagon lags in adopting disruptive technologies for intelligence, influence operations, and covert action. ??Strategic Imperatives: The U.S. must foster a risk-tolerant culture, streamline procurement, and forge stronger ties with the private sector to maintain its competitive edge. Drones, not the big, heavy artillery that the war was once known for, inflict about 70 percent of all Russian and Ukrainian casualties, said Roman Kostenko, the chairman of the defense and intelligence committee in Ukraine’s Parliament. In some battles, they cause even more — up to 80 percent of deaths and injuries, commanders say. https://lnkd.in/eDS55bZp

Congrats to Army Strategist and ASA Member, Nathan A Jennings, PhD, for his excellent article in Small Wars Journal today. Nathan delves into strategic methodologies to counteract China's assertive maneuvers. He emphasizes the necessity for the U.S. and its allies to employ coercive deterrence, indirect strategies, and naval power to influence China's actions while minimizing the risk of escalation. He highlights China's rapid economic ascent and military modernization, noting the potential threats to Taiwan and neighboring nations. Jennings advocates for leveraging China's economic dependencies and global trade networks as a means to deter aggressive behavior, suggesting that turning China's economic strengths into strategic vulnerabilities could be an effective approach. Key Points: Coercive Deterrence:?Implementing strategies that impose significant costs on aggressive actions to dissuade hostile initiatives. Indirect Approaches:?Utilizing asymmetric tactics and alliances to counterbalance China's regional influence without direct confrontation. Naval Power:?Enhancing maritime capabilities and presence to ensure freedom of navigation and uphold international norms. https://lnkd.in/gsXDzNku #SouthChinaSea #DeterrenceStrategy #MaritimeSecurity #USAllies #ChinaPolicy Irregular Warfare Center (IWC) | Irregular Warfare Initiative | Army University Press | David Maxwell | Jan K.
