  • The Fort Bliss Army Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program recently collaborated with the Defense Commissary Agency to conduct a barracks cooking class and food preparation competition. DECA Senior Enlisted Leader Command Master Chief Mario Rivers and DECA Dietician Deb Harris, traveled to Fort Bliss to lead the event. BOSS also invited the Holistic Health and Fitness program to train the trainers so units from across Fort Bliss could continue to replicate the barracks cooking classes for Soldiers. A total of 74 Soldiers stationed at Fort Bliss were trained on how to shop at the commissary, healthy eating habits, and ways to cook in the barracks using approved cooking equipment. The goal is to improve both the physical health of Soldiers while contributing to their mission readiness. Having earned Forces Command’s Best Extra Large BOSS program for 2024, the event was one of many highlighting why “It’s Better at Bliss.” #ArmysHome #PeopleFirst #QoL #BOSS

  • Members of the Fort Drum Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program have been creeping around Remington Park recently, transforming a once pleasant and scenic stretch of trail into a pathway of horrors. The Haunted Trail opened Oct. 11 for community members to have a fun, spooky outdoor adventure. “The Haunted Trail is basically like going to a haunted house, but we brought it all outside,” said Spc. Casey Hixson, BOSS secretary. “So, before we get into the really cold season, this gives Soldiers and families a chance to go for a walk and see some scary sights.” Read more https://spr.ly/6046q6aXQ #ArmysHome #PeopleFirst

  • The annual #BOSS24 Training Forum is cooking up a storm this week at the National Conference Center in Leesburg, Virginia. On June 9, the Soldiers participated in a life skills exercise of healthy eating and a skills assessment. Deb Harris, Defense Commissary Agency dietitian, was on hand to provide nutrition guidance for the Soldiers. They were split into 12 teams of 6, and each had to concoct meals using typical cooking utensils such as knives, bowls, measuring cups, an InstaPot and Microwave. The meals had to be nutritious -- high in protein, low sodium and using healthy fats such as olive oil and avocados -- and within a $40 budget. A four-person team judged the team’s dishes based on the above criteria and also on presentation – much like a cooking show. IMCOM-PacificCommand Sgt. Maj. Jon Williams, who participated on one of the teams, lauded the Soldiers’ creativity and resourcefulness. “The best part was seeing the social interaction, teamwork, critical thinking, and leadership applied to making their meal. They had so much fun, and that’s what we expect in our life skills program.” The forum lasts until June 14. We Are The #ArmysHome #PeopleFirst #BOSSProgram #CheersTo35Years
